Elena and Anastasia - nice story ...

Discussion in 'General Pro Player Discussion' started by roland_garros_fan, Jun 4, 2004.

  1. There is a very interesting article on the Roland Garros site about Elena Dementieva and Anastasia Myskina. They have trained together and have been friends since their childhood. They even shared a room in tournaments.

Anyway this adds to the excitement of the final tomorrow: how will they cope with all this pressure and who will give in first ?
I can hardly wait to see this match tomorrow which is not often the case with WTA matches.
Are you excited about it ?

Is anyone else seeing the Moya/Corretja and Dementieva/Myskina parallel. Will there be any miscalls that are corrected by the players?

What a great story. Definitely something we're not used to with all the other self-absorbed players on the tour. Should be an entertaining final tomorrow.

Isn't Myskina known for being a headcase? This could be huge...

Its definitely good for the WTA to have two fresh faces in a final of a major though, hopefully the trend continues and we don't get the same old JHH/Kim/Serena/Venus every time.

She's been known to toss her racquet around. The way she does it is very funny, if you ask me. Although, she's a lot calmer these days. Totally agree with you, it's good to see some different faces in the finals. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come... a deeper field in women's tennis.

It'll be interesting to see if Myskina cusses her coach during the match like she usually does. You'd think he did her dental work the way she gives him those drop dead looks and cusses him, making sure to move her lips so you can tell what she's saying.

  7. The psychological factor will be very important. None of them have been to a slam final before. But there also might be a hard battle as the two of them have pretty much the same game as explained in the article. Both of them are baseliners with a hard forhand and backhand and move very well. Both of them have week serves.
That and the fact that they know each other's game very well might make for a close battle. We'll see tomorrow.

They have known each other since they were 6 and were coached by Safins Mom at their club.

Dementieva was actually turned down by several clubs and then eventually got into the one owned by Safin's parents.

As you know I like Dementieva and I really like her powerful strokes, and slice serve, she also volleys very well and I am really looking forward to the match.

Myskina used to win when they were young but I hope that my girl can change that at RG.

Yeah, Liam, I really enjoy reading your posts as you say intelligent things, but why always have the color? If everyone did that, the whole board would be unreadable :(.

Unfortunately, I foresee plenty of nervousness, and a truckload of bad double faults. I think the personal element will be more enjoyable to witness than will the tennis element.

DAMM, THIS IS THE MOST BABE-ALICIOUS FINAL EVER! MUCH PREFERABLE TO THE WILLIAMS'.

Yes, it's refreshing to see other players other than an all-Williams or all-Belgium final. This will not be a walkover for either player- I see a long, drawn out battle. I am surprised that no one has taken advantage of Dementieva's lack of service ability. I think the red clay negates the importance of the serve.
