Should the 2 challenges be eliminated in favor of all close line calls being decided by the umpire?..it's just a matter of time before an incorrect line call will decide a grand slam championship

What do you mean decided by the ump? So the ump should request the hawk eye rather than the players? Not a terrible idea, but what happens when a player plays a close ball. The ump can't stop the point. It should be up to the player whether or not it's worth risking the point by stopping and challenging the call.

It should be like the system on clay. The umpire can, if they so choose, examine a mark on clay. The player can request it, but the umpire does not HAVE to comply; though usually, the request will be honored unless it's unreasonable. A player can stop play and ask for a mark to be checked, and in that case it pretty much always would be.

Same should work with hawkeye. The player can stop play and ask for a hawkeye check; in other cases, when the close ball was a point-ending shot, the umpire can use their own discretion as to whether it's worth checking hawkeye. (Presumably usually it would be, but not if the player is being frivolously argumentative and stalling for time.)

    It's 3 challenges, not 2.

The ump should just run it any time the call is close. Players don't need to wait on it, it only takes about 12 seconds. Let them go about their usual between point routine and the ump will announce the correct score

As long as the player is allowed to still stop play if they feel a ball should have been called out then I'm fine with it.
