Thread for following fall tournaments on campus. The big ITA tournaments will no doubt get their own threads.

    Duke Fab Four Invite

Looks like all the top Duke players are there except Bruno Semenzato.

Just got back from CTP. The event seems smaller this year, compared to last. Only courts 11-30 were in use today, with the exception of court 1, and a few singles matches on the lower courts.

Most of the teams from last year are here again: W&M, Louisville, Bama, Kentucky, SCarolina, Elon, Texas/Texas A&M, Purdue, Illinois, NC State, NCarolina, and Duke.

I was most interested in watching the new faces for UNC, but Cunha and Redlicki won their singles matches today. Redlicki beat Simich (LVille) 5 & 1 (I was at tourney desk when he reported his score).

I'll go back tomorrow and pay more attention to the scores.

Cunha continues to cruise...was playing his semifinal match against VCU player when I left. Assuming he wins, he'll play Redlicki in the finals. I was looking forward to watching Redlicki play Rossi (UK) in other semi match, but Rossi pulled out. Not sure why - he looked fine playing McCall (Duke).

They just do things off the radar. Oh, and ring ceremony this weekend, that's big for them.

    Dumb answer.

Correct. Everyone uses the fall to get their players match tough, let the coaches see the players in match situations so that the coach can more easily see what needs to be worked on, etc. So, the question of why they don't seem to have much of a fall schedule, when they have always had fall schedules that were comparable to other schools, is a valid one.

It looks like the Harvard Crimson Invitational and Fresno Bulldog Classic is off of those school's schedules compared to last year. Pepperdine just had one event before the ITAs as well.

maybe they have a secret weapon they are trying to hide.. or they found out last year that their schedule is too grueling and cutting back some..
the latter might the case .. after seeing some of the players at the end of last season, they didn't look like they handling the grind too well ..

Hey hey! Good to see Ben Horst in action. I remember that guy from the old days of high school tennis. The wars we used to have. Good times indeed.

Not a big tournament but still good win for Stanford and good to see the young guns already making some noise. I think the two new recruits Paige and Romanowicz are going to be real assets for Stanford this year.

    Oct. 7, 2012

DAVIS, Calif.- Stanford wrapped up competition at the Aggie Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon, highlighted by Jamin Ball and Nolan Paige snagging two titles apiece.

In addition to registering a runner-up singles finish in the Flight A division, Ball paired with Trey Strobel to capture the division's doubles crown.

Meanwhile, Nolan Paige defeated Maciek Romanowicz 6-1, 6-4 in all-Stanford final in the Flight B division. The two rookies then teamed up to claim the division's doubles title.

Stanford is back in action next weekend at the Battle in the Bay Classic.

Went to the Wake Forest invite to catch some action, link:
    http://www.wakeforestsports.com/sports/m-tennis/recaps/101212aab.html

Vick from Ohio St looked really good, although Lee from Wake didn't look good at all or like he even cared, that match was not close. Amogh Prabker and Rafael Aita from UNCW both looked really solid, Prabker won in the third. Saba from Duke looks strong, wish I could go tomorrow to see him play Prabker, that should be some big hitting.

Thanks for the Wake Invite info. I guess you realize that Nelson Vick is no longer at Ohio State, and the Wake player you saw was Amogh Prabhakar, not Prabker.

Texas A&M hosting an event called the Conference Challenge this weekend with LSU, Oklahoma, and Illinois sending players. Write up didn't say anything about LiveStats/Video or mention of the players.

LSU has a write up that says they'll be bringing everyone except their #1 Olivier Borsos.

Oklahoma has a write up that says they'll have 4 players there - Lawrence Formentera, Nick Papac, Leonard Stakhovsky and John Harrison Warden.

    USTA Clay Court Invitational

Several players from Duke, Georgia Tech, USC, Florida, Kentucky, Florida State, Cal, and a group of USTA Juniors are participating in this clay court event.

Here is Duke's write-up which includes the different draws. The Gold draw is the top notch one.

I'd say Styslinger from UVA has the best results thus far. Redlicki isn't too far behind though.

Redlicki has also had some solid future results. He's above Styslinger right now.

redlicki took the h2h at the zoo (very close match), but impressive results for both so far, at times, these past few months...not much difference right now probably, we'll see who develops better / has the higher upside over time

Might also be able to measure when we see how each player contributes in doubles. Mac will has played very well with Jenkins thus far, but Redlicki with his size, serve, and lefty-ness might do some major damage in the spring.
