Everybody please chime in on which has been their favourite grand slam in the history of tennis.

My personal favourite is the Australian Open 2005. Main reasons for this choice (I am from Australia by the way):

    1. Hewitt's magic run through a tough draw (Blake, Nadal, Nalbandian and Roddick as key dangers)
    2. The Federer/Safin Semi-Final epic which is right up there with my favourite matches of all-time. Clinical display of hitting and play.
    3. Marat FINALLY getting over the line on the 3rd attempt. Plus Hewitt's great sportsmanship in congratulating him and saying he was too good.
    4. The first big signs at a Grand Slam of Nadal's readiness to rise when he pushes Hewitt to 5 sets in the 4th round.
    5. Those brilliant Nike Power Crew and Sleeveless shirts we all love. And the Air Zoom Vapor Speed 3's worn by Federer/Hewitt/Nadal.
    6. Serena's epic win over Maria
    7. Agassi withstanding Pim Pim's onslaught of 51 aces and still prevailing. The crowd atmosphere was electric that day.

    Plus many other reasons :)

    Either Wimby 08 or 09

-Two candidates for the greatest match ever (both finals)

    -Both including Roger

    -Gold RF nike clothing

-at Wimbledon, the hope of tennis

-Dramatic (08) vs Absolutely amazing serving (09)

    -need I go on??

Golden Nike clothing? You serious? One of the biggest mistakes Fed has made in his career.

Wimbledon 2001 hand down. Goran finally winning the title, man that whole run to victory was insane, just so unlikely but so satifying and drama filled and I have to admit I had a tear in my eye for Goran. Not to mention some Kid called Federer stunning Sampras. Plus the last fast grass wimby..

After that probably RG 2009 then not sure what else.

Very well said! I remember watching those matches live. I felt bad for Pat but I would have felt worse for Goran had he not won that! It meant the world to him.

It is so dumb that I took a 4 year break from tennis for no reason. I stopped watching tennis in 2000 ( got into pro basketball instead) and started watching again in like 2003. I missed some quality tournaments .

The shirt and shorts, I should clarify ;)

White and gold looks cool, and I really like the Wimby 07-10 polos.

I've been trying to find one of Federer's white and gold "15" jackets in my size, pretty much since he wore it in that final.

    Still no luck :(

    [EDIT]

After the final I should say.

from the top of my head i remember 2 that i really enjoyed watching almost all the way through because they had lots of thrillers and high quality matches especially in the earlier rounds.

USO 07 had some great federer display from start to finish. including a fantastic match vs lopez imo. lopez also with a mosnter 2nd round 5-setter vs andreev.
then djokos first really great run at a major. including a very interesting 2nd round match vs stepanek going to 5
björkman making a big last stand of sorts forcing murray over 5 in R2 also. i loved watching bjorkman back in the day
then of course haas playing back to back 5 setters vs grosjean and then blake. the latter ending in that insane 5th set breaker. blake also with a big match vs santoro before that
moya vs kohlschreiber was a great watch as well
ferrer vs nalbandian was huge also
and some more close ones that i dont remember now.. including wawrinka i think. i watched so many matches pulling all nighters here and almost all of them were great

AO 08 pretty much the same.
just gonna mention a few matches here or the post will get huge lol. fed vs tipsy, tsonga shredding nadal, and making the finals, baghdatis vs safin and then hewitt back to back, and the ridiculous roddick vs kohlschreiber match oO
also even tho im a fed fan it was kinda nice to see someone else lifting a HC major trophy for a change at that time. looking back of course it wasnt so nice since the mono really seemed to destroy alot of feds 08 season.. :(

i should probably mention some older ones from 05 and sooner but i dont really remember the earlier rounds so well from those.

FO 2009. A struggling Federer who had to face the added pressure of those huge expectations the second Nadal lost in the 4th round.

It was like a sports movie, nearly every tennis fan watching was rooting for him to finally do it, the crowd was behind him every step of the way (I assume so anyway, I didn't actually see the Monfils match), and as much as I would have loved for the final to have been 4-5 sets, we did at least get some drama from Jimmy Jump invading the court.

Wimbledon 09 was pretty good too. I wasn't so fussed on the final but I was happy to see some of the older players have one last hurrah. Hewitt reaching the quarters, Haas reaching the semi finals, Roddick reaching the final, and of course Federer winning it for possibly the last time.

I would have died had that FO final gone the distance.

It was like a sports movie, but then during a full week. I had exams that week and did absolutely NOTHING. That week was devoted to Roland Garros completely. Every single hour I was thinking about the next match.

Liked the whole event and the Final:
    2007 Wimbledon ( Federer 5th Wimbledon)
2011 French Open ( Federer best French Open ever)
2009 French Open ( Federer finally wins the French)
2001 Wimbledon ( Fed beat Sampras, Goran denied Henman, and took Rafter away)
2008 US Open ( the emotional desperation going into that one for *******s)

Just like the Finals from these events Below:
1999 French Open ( Agassi finally winning the French)
1997 French Open ( Kuerten beating 3 prev French Champs)
1995 French Open ( Awesome final since I have this match in HQ)
1991 French Open ( Courier and Agassi enough said)
1989 French Open ( Becker Edberg best match, Disappointing when Chang beat Lendl and Edberg.)

Every Wimbledon Fed's ever won(2003 and 2007 the most satisfying ones.),it's always special and fitting when he wins it. Special mention to Wimby 01 , the torching passing day and Goran winning in the most epic fashion imaginable.

RG 2009 - The day Samprastards broke their TVs in disgust! Monumental event in tennis history, the day Fed became the GOAT(statswise atleast imo).

AO 05 - Quite possibly the highest level of tennis on a HC by Federer. His movement was absolutely mindboggling, the guy was floating on court, best I've ever seen him move. I still have difficulty swallowing how he got beaten by Safin being 2-1 up in sets and 5-2 up in the 4th set tiebreaker. Oh well, atleast Hewitt didn't win the finals, hated him back then.

AO 07 - His overall level in AO 05 was much better imo but the way he demolished Roddick was quite sensational. Maybe the highest level ever seen on a tennis court..

    USO 07 - DarthFederer(best outfit ever). :)

    The bad -

WB 08 - The day the establishment crumbled. What.an.anticlimax. Fedtroll got me admitted in the E.R room, thanks for that. Quite possibly Ralph's most important win over Federer, the day he truly believed he could beat Federer in a non-clay slam.

RG 08 - Wish Fed had lost to Monfils, enough said.

    AO 09 - Mum's the word.

WB 09 - Felt terrible for Andy, I wish he had won but then again I wish Fed won, most confused I've felt as a Federer fan.

It has to be one of the GS I enjoyed from start to finish.

2004, 2005, 2008, 2010 Australian Open, 2009 US Open, 2001 Wimbledon although I don't remember it as well as the other 5 mentioned

Bobby Riggs' first and only Wimbledon title. I was just a toddler but it feels like yesterday. We had good seats, my uncle Stephen and I, just behind the Royal box. Magic memories.

    '09 RG or '08 USO

Both great Federer wins after dealing with disappointment.

I was also a confused fan at the '09 wimby... i wouldn't have minded Roddick winning that, yet I also wanted Federer to win.

Wimbly '06...my precious MoMo beating Hateful Henin and getting revenge for AO '06 disgusting retirement. I shed a few tears that day, I must admit.

    USO '09...a star was born.

Wimbly '08...probably the only "Fedal" match I thought was worthy of the hype. It was especially brilliant after the utter letdown that was FO '08 Fedal final.

AO 2012...never stayed up that late (7AM PST when it finished) to watch a final match, but man was it exciting!!

2009 Wimbledon since Nadal lost 2000 points and Fed gained 800 for beautiful 2800 points swing. 2009 FO would be a close second but unfortunately Nadal lost only 1820 points.

2008 Australian Open has to be my absolute favorite. So many good matches: Tipsy/Fed, Hewitt/Baghdatis, Safin/Baghdatis, Roddick/Kohlschreiber. Tsonga's run was great and made for one of the most exciting and unpredictable Slam finals in recent year, in my opinion.

Wimbledon 2008 and 2009 were good fun too, as was French Open 2009.
