Well, GoldenEye for one. Shame though I only played it a few times and didn't have enough friends to play it with if I would've bought it.

The first Smash Bros and Mario Tennis for the N64 has lead to some ridiculous battles over the years though, and they have a special place in my heart.

Mario Kart 64 or SSB original hands down. Mario tennis was meh, but still better than Virtua tennis 4

The Arcade fighters. Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat stick out for me. So many quarters pumped into those.

For the home consoles I remember the NBA Jam tournaments on the sega genesis and the big one was in high school with NFL Blitz on the N64. Those games where fun and quick perfect for making a bracket and having a tourny.

you just reminded me of this old arcade NHL game where it's 2vs2 and a goalie. My favourite team in it was the Blues (Brett Hull and two other guys - maybe Pat Janney and Grant Fuhr or something). Kind of like NHL Hitz but it was released in the mid 90s.

The original Super Smash Brothers. It's the only game where you can get a laugh out of dying.

I wasted hours & hours at work playing Duke Nukem in multiplayer mode.

Grab a jetpack, RPG launcher & fire away...

Back in the day id play Battlefield 1942 all the time. It was one of the first multiplayer games I've ever played online, a true classic.

Conkers Bad Fur Day. Me and my friends spent an entire summer playing that game it was so fun. If I still had an n64 I'd be playing it now.

oh yeah. HALO, the original. The sequels never hit that spot for me, but HALO: Combat Evolved. So much time wasted playing that game.

Also, even though it's not Multiplayer, does anyone here dig Shadow of the Colossus? My roommate in college and I played that game way too much.

Under this criteria, it was hard to top Micro Machines. Four players sharing the same keyboard led to some very dirty tactics.

For the other games mentioned in this thread, another nod to Golden Eye. We used to play four player co-op mode by sticking a piece of cardboard down the centre of our massive (!) 21" TV to stop you seeing where the other team were.

I considered doing this but never did. Everyone I know would watch the other guys screen. I only met one guy who could beat me at the height of my goldeneye addiction, I had to fly to California to find him, and he only looked at the opponents screen, never his own. We split wins until I had to leave. Seriously, Goldeneye messed me up when gaming went online and I couldn't screen cheat anymore (that's what we called it even though it wasn't cheating if everyone was doing it.....go figure)

Descent I and II....not on the same screen, but LAN was really fun. Blew my mind when it came out.
