Fed looking off in practice at IW, Roddick looking confident

Saw Fed and Roddick practicing today at IW.

Fed looked pretty iffy...miss-timing a lot of shots, just not looking very Fed-ish. His lack of time on the court and lack of tournament play hasn't been kind to him.

Roddick, by comparison was looking very smooth and confident. Seems clear he's riding high due to his wins over J and N at Dubai.

It would be nice to see a resurgent Roddick join J, N, and F (w/Gasquet, Murray, Nalbandian, and maybe Tsonga?) in a more heated tussle at the top. Things are a lot more enjoyable when it isn't "Who's going to win this one, Fed or Nadal?"

Fed off and Roddick in form ? What's new ? Roddick consistantly good and Federer off, that would be new to me. Way too early to tell ..

I saw Fed practicing at the US Open when I was there and he looked terrible. He was practicing with this guy ranked like #300 and it appeared like the guy was kicking his butt when they played some live points. I don't think he plays very seriously when he practices, and I've been reading the book "Quest for Perfection", where it is stated numerous times that Fed sucks in practice. I don't know if thats still the case but it was talked about alot during his developing years.

Practice, smactice. It doesn't matter for squat if they win their matches.

This isn't the first time that I've read about Federer playing horribly in practice, and then going on to win the whole thing. I've also heard it said that Roddick is a very good practice player, but what good has it done him in the last few Slams?

They both play their first matches today and those will be much better measuring sticks as far as form.

Maybe Roddick will be the old Roddick.

Fed will always be suffering from mono--right after every loss, but--amazingly--not when he wins Wimbledon 2008.

The same way Djokovic has mysterious injuries in the middle of matches that suddenly disappear....

I've heard the opposite; wasn't it Roddick, or Safin saying that Federer plays very well in practice, and he doesn't even lose matches in practice?

the only I can explain Roddick's loss to Haas considering he was looking "confident" in practice is that maybe he wants to head down to Miami for early spring break:mrgreen::mrgreen::rolleyes::lol:

Shame for him that a good practice won't keep him in the top 6.

Henman was always awesome in practice too but then would go down in the real world.

I'm sorry my friend but that is completely and utterly false. I have read "Quest for Perfection" and indeed Roger doesn't play his best in practice. All of his coaches and friends said he never took practice seriously and was always goofing and messing about, not trying at all. One of his friends that played him said something like this:

"He plays badly in practice and goofs around but when it comes to matches he will come out and destroy you" - No where near accurate but it was basically saying that.

LOL. . . .great post. I still love when Best Damn shows this. Wasn't it a total of 14.5 practices that he said? Good stuff. So is the clip of AI's mom giving hell to some reporters.

It's funny that everyone has been raving about Roddick since Dubai, and in the meantime Haas was bageled by Ferrer, and beaten by Sampras at the SAP.... funny old world, the tennis world.

I don't know about many, but a lot of players looks fantastic in practice, but translating that to match play is another battle.

I know about this, it's not a rare thing. Anyways if you can not produce the magic on court I guess you should lose .. Roddick actually does have a perfect personality to match this but I doubt that he is near perfect in practice, I mean he may work hard but I saw some youtube clips and it seems he had a fair share of problems on the net and with his backhand. This is good for Haas if you look the other side, recovering from his shoulder and wiping Arod in straights and we all thought he was playing well in SJ and Dubai .. so he is in form. :-? He can not keep it up and all I wanted to see is how will he do in miami and iw so now I can go back to trash talk mode when we talk about roddick. ;)

Wow Haas has Roddick's number. He's 7-3 against him.

I'd have to say many thought Haas was poised to be next top player from Germany some 10 years ago or so, he was the obvious choice to follow Becker & Co's footsteps, but many things prevented this from happening incl those predictions I guess. ;) Just want to point out that he is probably more talented than Roddick so its no surprise. He has great game, actually in 2007 he won a tournament without facing a brake point against him, I think he beat Roddick on the way or in final.

I saw part of Haas' match against Benneteau on Friday night. I was very impressed with Haas' all-court game. I especially liked his 1hbh.

All the ladies sitting behind me were just enamored with his looks, though.

Best / funniest reply - "I wonder how Haas looked in practice?"

:)

I love Haas' game so it is good to see him winning again. My wife said Fed looked just ok today, but it was enough to win.

Hey do you live in Hungary ?? How are women over there ?? are they pretty nice.? I know this 1 girl from Hungary, and she is as mean as heck. She is just very harsh and mean and angry, most of the time. I hope this isn't typical of women over there.:???:
