USA out to an early 1-0 lead as Jamea Jackson overcomes Anna Lena Groenefeld 6-2, 3-6, 7-5!!!

``I have respect for every player out there but I also have confidence in my game,'' Jackson said. ``I've played well against top women recently.''

``Clay is one of my better surfaces and if was definitely an advantage for me,'' Jackson said. ``She is a big hitter and the clay neutralized some of her power.''

Maybe we underestimated our girls? Or some of us did!

Next up is Jill Craybas vs. Julia Schruff...I like Craybas' chances!!!

In the 2nd rubber, Schruff and Craybas have split sets (after the German took the 1st 6-4, and Craybas came back in the second 6-2), and are about to start the 3rd set.

Craybas and Schruff...2-2 in the third. I'm not sure if I'll keep posting the scores, as I may want to keep myself unspoiled for watching it on TV, but you can find live score on the FedCup site if you are interested.

Craybas was the favorite in that match. Jackson pulls off a huge upset against Groenefeld.

Not that it hasn't been before... but I just checked out the roster and I thought it was really cool how the Fed Cup team is quite diverse like the nation it represents.

I just listened to some of the past match interview some German guy did with Jackson, and maybe it was partly a translation problem...but he said something to her along the lines of her not having respect one Groenefeld got ahead in the third. She came back gracefully, saying she has respect for all of her opponents, but that she had confidence in how she plays and stuck to her game. I thought that was quite rude on the interviewer's part. Was she supposed to lie down and play dead?

I guess she forgot that she was 'supposed' to lose in straight sets.

I hadn't thought of that, but yes...it is quite a diverse team. And maybe a grossly underestimated team as well! *crossing fingers*

And the US pulls it off...led by Jamea Jackson! Who likes clay...by the way.

The US goes into the semi-finals in Belgium. Undoubtedly, they will be huge underdogs, even if Davenport or either of the Williams were on that squad. I think it would be a shame to not have the girls who got them there to play...even if it means an almost sure loss. They did great this weekend!

So much for a 'weak' squad!

Caught a bit of the Fed Cup match on the Tennis Channel.

Good stuff from Jamea Jackson and the whole Fed Cup team.

Coming into this match, I'll I've been hearing is doom and gloom over the US missing some of its top players. Good to see the team show some heart and bang out the results despite some of the naysayers.

I also noticed how diverse the team was. Very interesting.

Unbelievable win for the American women. I gave them very little chance of winning and they proved me wrong.

Great for the US team, but as long as Belgium retains both Clijster and JHH, I don't see any other team stopping Belgium this year.

Clijsters isn't playing that great these days.
