I think 2010 will be a tremendous year for the great roger federer. Just take a look at what he has to prove. First off Federer has a chip on his shoulder after losing to Juan Martin Del Potro in New York. You see, Federer will be proving everyone wrong by winning the calendar slam. Heres why.

    1. Nadal on the decline. His knees and ankles are suseptible to injury. Take a look at why Nadal has got to where he did. He plays like a tiger, always attacking and "giving his life" for every point. Nadal has to remember that tweaking a knee or an ankle is a real possibility.

    2. Players like Djokovic and Murray, the so called "challengers" of Federer have fallen off. You no longer see Murray or Djokovic really breaking federers serve. Call it like you see it but murray and djokovic can only move down in the rankings, not up.

    3. Up and comers like Del Potro and Tsonga dont have the shotmaking Federer has. Del potro beat Federer by pushing him back vertically. By hitting it harder and harder. Federer is the chameleon. He can adapt to that kind of style at all costs. Federer can become an all arounder all the way to a defensive basliner to a serve and volley specialist. If Del Potro wants to try to push federer around, it is not reasonable because Federer hits it harder. You dont want to get into a baseline game with Federer.

    4. Sufaces are irrelevant now. Todays players are basically one dimensional on the surfaces. Nobody really can change their game now, Just look at the results, theres not too many surface specialists anymore. Federer can exploit anyone on any surface because his game cancels out their preferences. Look at why Federer is on top. He has played the surfaces better than anyone all around.

Federer is going to have a big 2010. I cant see anyone keeping up with this guy. Then again who ever did. A lot of guys of 2009 were a flash in the pan. Federer will adapt again and seems to get a lot better with age. He is smarter and healthier, Look for federer to cash in on a big 2010.

every slam he wins is just bonus since the 15th. if he doesn't win any, well, bad luck, try again later maybe. if he still does: wow :)

I atleast see him maybe defending Wimbledon...but that's about it...old Feddie isn't getting any younger and the twins will only become more and more important.

Federer will win two grand slams at the most(if he's lucky) One most likely, at Wimbledon. Nadal will regain his french crown but fail to defend his AO title. AO and USO will be wildcard

    Well it's true, i'm no fan of the guy but federer's cr4p year consists of 2 slams,2 1000's and 2 slam RU's.

Too many variables. Federer could indeed have a tremendous multi-slam winning year. At the same time he could also have a drop in motivation with the onset of parenthood as well as the lack of records to break. He kind of killed his white whale this year. I for one hope he wins another FO.

I think he's got a real shot at the AO, and you always have to like him on the fast surfaces like Wimby and USO.

I think he'll win 1-2 slams next year.

    bad thread.

federer isnt dominating like he used to. Winning slams is much more difficult these days.

then of course, even if federer is able to replicate his slam success of 2006/2007...there is still nadal at the french.

is it possible? Anything is possible, i guess.

I see Fed. Winning at least 2., Nadal maybe the French. Fed. might wanna challenge Nadal for the French., I don't see Nadal taking the Australian or USO. Djokovic, Cilic, Delpo or Murray might be the other players to watch.
I wouldn't mind it if Roddick wins one as well.

Looking forward to 2010. WTA might pick up a little interest with Justine, clijsters, "Angry Serena" and a few up and coming players. I believe it will be a much better year for WTA.

I would be happy if Fed won 1 slam. Fed is not the same player anymore and it will be harder for him from now on.

He needs to beat Rafa at the French. That is the greatest single accomplishment he can have next year.

I think/hope he will win 2.. Wimbledon and Roland Garros would be awesome, bu, but I don't see RG happening. I think he has huge chances at Wimbledon and th USO though.

How do you know that Federer has a chip on his shoulder over losing to Del Potro? And how big of a chip could he have? He's won 15 majors and he's won the US Open 5 times.

No, his game is not getting better with age. He is not as good in 09 as he was in 06 and 07. Just look at the videos of him against Wawrinka in Monte Carlo or Djokovic in Miami.

Nadal is a big favourite to win the French, and if he stays fit then he's favourite for Wimbledon too IMO.

Federer will win at most one or two slams next year, and it's possible he could fail to win any.

Winning two of the four majors next year would be better than expected. He was two sets from winning all four majors this year, but he was also two sets away from not winning a single one as well.

A lot of posters have been saying he won't win a GS in 2010. That sounds very short sighted. He was just one set away from winning the USO and that would have made 3 out of 4 this year and he also made it to the finals in aussie. How do you go from that to absolutely nothing? You people make it sound like fed has been playing .500 tennis year round. Fed is 55-8 this year. It only seems worse because he's so good that when he loses a match people make such a big deal about it. This 2009 record so far is pretty damn good if you ask me. And that's supposedly coming from an "off year" than compared to the rest of his career?
He's got a great chance in 2010. He's been very solid at Wimby and has always been favorited. And he's always strong on any hard court surface. People don't begin to wear down in tennis physically as much as they begin to get burnt out like Clijsters, Henin, Borg, Sampras to name a few. The biggest threat would be if Federer lost his passion or motivation. Although he has conquered the records he set out to break in '09, I don't think he has lost that motivation. Just remember this Sampras retired "early" not because of injury, but because he did lose that "love" to play and compete. Agassi could have won a few GS well past the age of 30 and he isn't nearly as talented or injury free like Fed is now. To count fed short now and say he might go GSless is like when people were saying he would never win Roland Garros. Just remember you don't have to be your best to win, Del Potro should know that. Played horribly for 2 sets, and nobody even mentioned his name when USO began.

Jesus... I have to remind myself of that. Federer is seriously insanely good... if there's a Grand Slam Final... Federer is either there at the end or winning it... sh*t!

And it's been like that for years and years now. Unbelievable... really unbelievable. The guy is pure GOAT.

Federer should win 2.....Wimbledon and US Open, anything more than that is a bonus, anything less would probably be a disappointing year in his mind.

Nadal will win the French but after that he will probably be too worn out. Unless he finds a way to shorten his points and matches, you will see him out of the game within 4 years. His body cannot continue to take the beating.

I'd love for him to win another Australian open. He hasn't won that since 07. Another wimby would be nice. I can see fed winning 1-2 slams in 2010. Anything more than 2 would be an amazing feat. I'd love to see him win them all but he's not getting any better as time moves on

I think Rafa will only win RG in 2010. Fed will only win Wimbledon in 2010. The players like Nole, Del Po, Murray will be the winners of the HC slams in 2010. Remember Fed saying "Thank God the HC season is over" earlier this year? Fed won't win anymore HC slams and he knows it!
