Gonzalez is 0-5 versus Federer. I like Roger in straight sets.
I'll take my chances and say Gonzales in 3
No way - it's Federer in straights. First set will be close, second will be a blowout.
At least that's how it has gone in their last meetings: Gonz comes out all guns blazing in the first set. Federer plays very conservative and withstands the barrage. At 5-5 Federer turns it up a little bit. Federer takes the set either 7-5 or in the tiebreak, where he lets it rip.
Second set, González, flabbergasted that all the heavy artillery didn't work in the first set, tries his plan B: hit harder! His shots start going wide/long, plus Federer has a set under his belt and can afford to let it rip some more. Federer takes the second set, say, 6-2.
In a way, it looks like Federer was fishing - give the fish some line, let it run, and when it tires reel it in.
Gonzalez in 3.
If he can be a trouble for Fed on grass, on clay, where he feels most comfourtable, it would be even more.
3rd set 7-5 or even a TB, the other two doesn't matter
If it's a cat and mouse game, (Fed the cat, Gonzalez the mouse, Federer plays with Gonzalez as a cat plays with a mouse before the coup de grâce), then Federer in three or, if he goes on a walkabout in the second set. If Roger is serious and figures he's had enough practice time on clay, then two sets.
Trouble? It was straight sets at wimbledon. And straight sets at Roland Garros, too. The only set González has ever gotten from Federer was a tiebreak - at this same tournament
I'm sticking to Fed in straights. González has been less than stellar this year.
emmm...... rather a tiger and buffalo game !!!
Nice job, Roger. We all knew you would win in straight sets (-223).
