Has Federer hurt the legacy of Nadal’s career more or has Nadal hurt the legacy of Federer’s career more?

If it weren’t for Federer, Nadal would probably have won the French Open and Wimbledon for three consecutive summers. He probably would have been ranked number one in the world for five consecutive years. Without Federer, Nadal (for now) goes from that Becker/Edberg/Wilander echelon to the Borg and Sampras echelon.

If it weren’t for Nadal, Federer would probably have won 21 Grand Slams. He probably would have two (maybe three) c calendar Grand Slams. He probably would have been ranked number one in the world for six consecutive years. Without Nadal, Federer goes from disputed GOAT to undisputed GOAT.

Of course, without the other, maybe neither would have sufficent motivation to actually achieve what we think they would have without each other.

Nice perspective ...obviously Fed got hurt more with the unfavorable GS record....but if you extend the argument to Lendl, Agassi and even Roddick (guys who lost a lot of Slam finals to the same opponent), they come out looking a lot better
