Could this be the only match Old-man-Fed can win this year?

Gasquet in 3, so to answer your question, Fed won't win this or his match against Delpo to finish with 0-3 for the first time ever.

I can't believe this will be a toss up. But hopefully Fed is motivated from yesterday and doesn't let his focus wander and plays his game. Either that or this could be another Robredo which will be sad.

Federer wins this one..he will have a good chance due to that Gasquet doesnt attack the ball with conviction and plays too far behind the baseline .Open angles for Fed to pounce on and alos drop shot a lot.
Will be full of nice shotmaking !

Fed is not terribly old relatively speaking.

Ferrer is 31 year and 7 months, Berdych, Wawrinka, Tsonga all 28 and ~6+month old.

It's not like Sampras and Agassi tried to compete against then top 10 players,
Federer, Hewitt, Safin who were 10+ year young.

Naa, I was way too pessimistic, Fed in 2. 6-4, 6-3. After all, he has 'home audience' behind him and they wanna see him in semis :).

Surely it's easier for someone in his early 30s to compete against someone who's 10 years younger than against someone who's 4 or 5 years younger. When Sampras was competing against Federer, Hewitt, and Safin, he was past his prime, but they were before their prime. (Hewitt appears to have peaked early, but it could be that his overall level was highest in 2004 and 2005, but that the competition had improved since 2001 and 2002). Federer is now competing against players who are in their prime.

Federer in 2. Seriously, his level was pretty good against Djokovic for about two sets. Maybe he wins in 3, but I'll be really surprised if he loses to the man without a forehand on indoor hard court.

Fed should have won that match imo. He's still pretty close to the top 4 in level, the difference is ALL mental.

fed in straights, gasquest will play way to far back like he always does and fed will capitalize off of that by getting more chances to come in.

Gasquet is done, he wants to go home to France. Del Potro was a must win for him. Straight sets for Fed, with some bakery products on the house!

Federer in 2. Can't believe some of you are losing faith in Fed to the point where you think he's not going to beat Gasquet.

Fed has become very unpredictable. His highest level can still beat anyone but you never know when the UEs will pop up. He hasn't often been able to maintain his highest level over a whole match this year.

Man, so many negative people thinking Gasquet will win. Its almost making me believe he will...

Ok yeah, Federer has declined but he took Djokovic to 3 and he's been in insane form since USO. I dont think Gasquet will be able to touch him unless ******** shows up, But i think Roger is more motivated to win or at the very least, make the semi's this year. So i say Federer in 2.

Im already noticing how Gasquet is playing to Federer's BH as much as he can. Not letting him unleash that killer FH he has.

    Please.

Both of them didn't attempt to hit the ball hard in that rally. It's gotten to a point that any rally evokes conversation about the court speed.

Man, Gasquet takes ages with those wind-up BH and he has such poor movement that everytime he's out wide on his BH side, Fed just hits one down the line and Gasquet is already out of the rally because he's struggling to run down the ball.
