    ....in doubles, that is.

Yup, Federer and Yves Allegro lost in the QF of the doubles yesterday. Not bad that they made it to the QF's of a Master's Series though. :D

Fed doesnt suck at doubles, his friend Allegro does. Last time I checked, doubles was about two guys both playing well. Fed can only carry so much dead weight you know.

Federer should play with Aisam ul Haq Qureshi of Pakistan

Yes, that's true. It's the same Aisam ul Haq Qureshi who got so much flack by partering with Israel's Amer Haddad. We often take the names of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati as number 1 (used to be) doubles players. I think Aisam is one of the best doubles player provided he plays with a good partner. In Davis Cup singles he has wins over the likes of Paradorn Srichaphan, Lu (Chinese Taipei), Prakash Amritraj, and Rohan Bapanna (India). In doubles he and his partner, little known Aqeel Khan, has wins over top 100 players including Paradorn/Danai Udomchok. In Davis Cup tie against India this month (April 7-9) Aisam and Aqeel almost beat India. Well, we lost a close tie 2-3. In singles Aisam won both his matches over Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna, our second string players lost doubles, but Aqeel Khan lost both his singles he could have won. Against Prakash, Aqeel Khan, was serving for 1st and 2nd sets but lost 6/7, 6/7, 4/6. Against, legendary Leander Paes who has wins over the likes of Pete Sampras, Aqeel Khan was down 2 sets to love but staged a remarkable recovery in taking 3rd and 4th sets; in fact he took fourth set 6-0, but then Paes showed his experience in taking the fifth and decider 6/1. All these scores are on the ITF's website www.daviscup.com.

Going back to Federer's doubles; I think he should partner with Aisam ul Haq Qureshi and they will be number 1 doubles players in six months. Aisam has one of the best second serve, one of the best single-handed backhand, the best backhand volley I have ever seen, and is a serve and volleyer and that explains his singles ranking on the ATP tour because his serve and volley style is less effective on slower surfaces! All the current serve and volleyers are struggling on clay and a bit slower surfaces, but with Federer (or even with Dent), Aisam will be tough to beat.
