I know this thread comes early but still, the Fedal match-up is the most anticipated one in men's tennis even though the final score is predictable at times. Here, however, Fed has his biggest chance to take down Rafa. Thoughts?

I wonder if Federer can get into the double digits of the win column in his H2H against Nadal like Djokovic has.

I think Federer will win this in 3 sets. He always has a tough time against Nadal and I don't expect it to be different. Fed will win though because he has been playing so well and Nadal hasn't.

Hey guys sorry if this is in the wrong thread!

But I have two tickets for the Monday afternoon session at the O2 it was a present for my parents but they cannot make it now.

The seats are very good it is lower tier and 5th row from the front for the Murray v Ferrer!

I am happy to sell it at face value and will even go a bit less if I have to but would not like them to go to waste!

Please reply or DM me if interested!

Federer in 2. Can't see Nadal doing much damage on his worst surface after a long lay-off against possibly the best player ever (though past his prime) who's played excellent tennis of late on a surface he still rules.

Nadal in two. Nadal is still in his prime, Federer is aging. The fact that he's still so good is a true testimony to his legendary status, but he never likes to play Nadal.

You're right that he still rules indoor hard. In 2010 and 2011 he's 28-1 on the surface, his only loss coming to Gael Monfils in Paris last year. I hadn't realized he was so dominant indoors!

By comparison, he went 31-1 on indoor hard between 2004 and 2006. Seems like he's pretty much still at his best on the surface!

How is this the most anticipated matchup?

Topspin moonballer relentlessly abusing Fed's backhand point after point, serve after serve. Nothing new, nothing exciting.

Federer (and everybody else) abuses Nadal's backhand just as much. Nobody wants Nadal on the opposite side of the court hitting forehands. Thanks, but no thanks.

Assuming it's the same surface as last year, the lower bounce will subdue the backhand abuse enough for Federer to be able to cope. It's when he's hitting backhand after backhand from shoulder height or higher that he struggles.

Why wouldn't Fed be? The conditions indoors are so much better. He doesn't have to deal with the elements, or poor lighting.

And Nadal is the ultimate elements player. Hard courts are his worst surface and indoors only makes it worse.

I saw based on what I've seen from Fed the past 2 tournaments and the fact that Nadal hasn't played, I'm going with Fed in 2.

Indoor conditions do not make it worse for Nadal. They are just better for his opponents - shotmakers, who do not possess his footwork, or safety margin given by his topspin. Only indoors, with the true bounce of HC, absense of wind and sun, do they get the opportunity to swing away and paint the lines with higher percentages.

This is why Federer normally wins and Nadal normally loses.

End of season seems to be good for Roger. He is in a good rush, he buolt his momentum. I think the outcome of this match will also dependbon how he will play against Tsonga.
He is now a a good level of confidence, all he has to do is to keep his head straight and repeat the Berdych execution in london.

Federer will have to play really well to win, and Nadal is due a win against him here.

I'm well prepared for Nadal to win, and I hope this match takes place on Tuesday night since I have tickets for that session. I figure that if Nadal and Federer both win their matches they will face off in their second RR matches (if last year is anything to go by - I'm sure the winners of the first match played the second RR match) which would be on Tuesday. In that case I think surely it will be the evening match (unless they need to sell out the day session or the BBC really have some pulling power to get it on in the day, also that means it has a theoretical larger audience reach, but also people will be at work and Sky will having bigger pulling power and want to be the only ones showing it, plus US time difference makes the night match more favourable so I still think it has to be a night session) if one of them loses their match, then they will play different people and I will see one of Federer or nadal which suits me either way. But both would be cool.

I just hope the organisers don't swap the way the shcedule the matches or decide to put Federer vs Nadal on in the afternoon.

Same here praying for a Fedal matchup of tuesday since ive got tickets for the afternoon and evening sessions, im not sure how it works, i thought they may have to have both won in straights to face each other on tuesday but im not sure, because last year Nadal and Djokovic played each other on the 3rd day, i was thinking since Nadal lost a set to Roddick on the opening day that was the case, Murray and Fed both won there opening match in straights presumably thats why they faced off on the second day, but im just speculating, hopefully its just a win for both. If it is on Tuesday i would be pretty surprised if it was the afternoon session but could happen, i remember i had tickets for both Semis in 2009 with Fed vs Davy and Delpo vs Soderling, you would have thought that Fed-Davy would have deffinately been the evening session but turned out to be the afternoon session which was pretty strange, but a Fedal match should deffinately be the evening considering there would be a Tsonga-Fish match.

It all depends on Fed's mental strength. If he can keep his balls from shrinking as usual when is facing Nadal then he can win, even win in straights no matter what Nadal does. Would I bet my money on it? No way after all the inexplicable ball shrinkage I've seen over the years.

The winners and losers of both matches will play on Tuesday. I got front row tickets to Tuesday night and I am hoping they play Nadal vs Fed then...

I tried to look at previous schedules e.g in 2009, winners of Sunday (Federer/Murray) played tuesday night, yet in 2010 they both played tuesday afternoon.

It's hard to judge when they'd play this match. If they were fussed about viewing figures they'd choose afternoon since BBC have coverage of afternoon matches. But if they are going for sales/crowds/atmosphere, then people are more inclined to be available at night/pay top dollar for it.

You would... But seriously this is Nadal's best chance to get Fed in an indoor event as he came out so spotty...

Fed in three is my gut but could go either way for sure

Yea, I can see that. Rafa looked horrible against Fish. He had moments, but that was all. I wonder if Rafa is just looking at this as a tune up for the Davis Cup. Or maybe he is more hurt than we know.

I'm a Federer fan, also a big Djokovic fan and a Delpo fan, but I'm realistic and Federer is 30 years old and might not play his best and has always had problems with Nadal. So I'm not dissing him, but I have respect for Nadal and I think he has a big chance to beat Roger. But I hope not.

Well I think Nadal and Djokovic played the first day, so that meant their group had to play the 3rd day, Fed's group played on the even days. The winners of the opening matches from each grop always played eachother in the 2nd day of that group, so day 3 was the second day play for Nadal's group.

Anyway, we got it in the bag! Congrats

Hopefully Federer can beat Nadal here and then again on Sunday in the final. That would be a very satisfying finish to the year for Federer.

Fed looked pretty meh while Nadal looked terrible. Nadal's terrible is still enough to get Fed off his game so it balances out

two mehs= 1 boring match imo

If Tsonga beats Fish for Nadal there shouldn`t be a lot of pressure in this match. He knows that even if he loses badly this match he will have another chance vs Tsonga to qualify. However he will need to improve his serve.Serving consistenly under 100mph will not get the job done vs Federer.
Federer hasn`t played great either but he will certainly have more easy service games while Nadal will have lots of games where he will struggle holding

i think it has something to do with them meeting in a RR format rather than a final. And of course it has something to do with an indoor fast hard court.

I think people are forgetting about what happened in last year's Final, and also the fact that Nadal never beat Fed indoors.
Besides Rafa doesn't look 100% healthy right now. If Fed can only play on the same level as he did a week ago - it won't even be close.
