Sad if that stuff is true. Roger should man up and get on the phone with the guy.

Wait there was a thread a few weeks ago about a confirmation of attending Basel this year, now it's been pulled? What the heck is going on? Miscommunication?

Is it really a coincidence that we hear Nadal's conformation to play Basel, and Rogers refusal (after he supposedly confirmed already), at exact same day?

Uh, kid. That's what you pay an agent to do.

The TD shows his lack of class by airing private matters.

That is a great point. The TD seems to be a very unstable person and possibly very jealous of Federer.

Just keep telling that to yourself. 32yo Fed will have little chance against Nadal.

As far as I am concerned, something, that doesn't come from Federer himself or his agent (i.e. reliable source) cannot be taken seriously.

It seems, that a great deal of politics is going on behind the curtains and we know little to nothing behind the motives, that drive those kind of decisions.

With that said, it is higly unlikely, that Federer would decide to run from the competition (as some of the more sensitive to everything Federer does poasters suggest). He never has.

    This.

Personally, I was astonished, that Federer continued to deal with the the TD, after their previous problems. The TD or the people, who were/e in charge of the negotiations, showed extremely bad business ethics by airing details from the negotiations (My personal experiense in this region is exactly the opposite (both in private matters and business matters)).

I guess, that Federer wanted to give the public the chance to see him play again.

That's what everyone said at wimbledon 2008. I cant believe how arrogant you are about this.

Prime Fed sure. You understand Fed is about to turn 32? Do you understand that after 1 grand slam this year, 3 masters, and 2 500 series tournaments, he is No10 ranked on atp race? He wont even be in top 5 at the end of this year.

I don't know in what "la la land" you live, but Fed cant even touch Nadal now days. Its not even rivalry anymore. Its just complete dominance

Not sure where people are getting this Fed not playing Basel from? As far as I can gather, he said he was playing Basel for no appearance fee, and without a contract - in other words, his only income would be the regular prize money. Brennwald's very odd airing of ongoing/recent negotiations does not change that (and I can't think of any other instance I've heard of in which a TD has aired what is going on in negotiations)

Edit: The only thing I can think of that might explain (not excuse) Brennwald's talking is that without a contract, apparently he cannot use Fed's image/voice to promote the tournament.

Exactly. Only undignified amateurs discuss ongoing business dealings in public. It's not like Federer will suddenly go "oh, he's publicly dissing me, I better call him to say sorry."

When Federer's in the mood, he can take Nadal to the cleaners even now. Almost age 32 and still ranked #2 in the world ahead of the almighty prime Rafa who's done the career Slam of quit jobs.

RFederer thinks he is the biggest thing in tennis. RFederer is only willing to play if Basel complies with his terrorist-like demands of a ridiculous appearance fee. RFederer isn't worth as much as he thinks he is. RNadal will be the star of Basel, so they can afford to kick RFederer out since RNadal can still draw the crowds. :p

Absolutely. In fact I heard Raphla is so humble and generous that he never charged any money for playing there. Instead he offered to pay the tournament himself for being allowed to play.

RFederer knows he's the biggest thing in tennis. RFederer has more fans and money that RNadal can dream of. RNadal is allowing himself to be a terrorist in all tennis matches. RFederer is a clean player, RNadal is doping. Even with RNadal playing Basel, the crowd will still cheer for RFederer. :)

His website still shows Basel on the schedule. If and when that changes, then I'll believe he's not in. Until then, it's a lot of idle speculation.

Who knows what's going on, I assume there's more going on than we know. Too be fair with the WTF moved forward playing Basel, Paris and then WTF is alot to handle. If Federer wants to keep his ranking points higher for a better seeding in slams then skipping Basel makes sense. Up to him.

Fed should give Basel the boot just to annoy that jealous clown Wawrinka.
