    They both had to settle for 300, he'll reach at least 301 in Basel. ;)

    Depends what you call "soldiers", actually. If you count everything, and coming from every city-state, I believe it was closer to 7,000 than 5,000. Leonidas' Spartan guard was 300-man strong, though.
