Most resembles the Blade 98 16x19.

I just created a new one to sum everything up in the first two posts.
Just for reference, instead of having to read all 400 posts.

Maybe his requirements where "I want a Blade 98 16x19 but want more plow through with a different balance" then you end up with a brand new Wilson racket regardless of the paintjob!

Wow - I wonder what will happen to the Pro Staff 90 line. Does anyone on tour still use it? I have been collecting one of every new model ever since Roger became #1. Is this...the end?

Probably. I own his whole line too... PS 90, nCode, then K Factor 90 (don't have the BLX though)

It's time for it to go away if you ask me. Wilson should keep the PS 85/88 but get rid of this line.

I still love the feel of the 90.
Hate the Blades' on the other hand.

Really excited to watch the results of this change! I'm confident we can see a Federer 1.25 with some added zip on his groundstrokes and serve! Oh, and

No, however the sale of Tour 90's in the classified section and fleabay will hit the roof.

Agree - that is a great idea, keeping the 85 original but ending the derivative 90 line.

Nothing will happen to it because customers will continue to buy it since it's a great racquet. Most people don't buy racquets just because some pro uses it. The Wilson Steam 99S and the Wilson Hyper Hammer 5.3 Stretch OS are both Best Sellers. Do you know any top pro that uses them?

It already has. Both the Dow and the Nasdaq are down today. The S&P 500 is down, too. That must mean the market is negative on Federer's racquet switch and think it's a bad move by him. :)

Do you really believe that this particular racquet's sales have nothing to do with the man who uses/used it? Do you think Federer is making a big mistake by switching?

I hope so. That would be a great opportunity for people to pick up one of the best racquets on the market at a discount. :)

I believe people buy racquets because they like playing with them. Why do you think the Steam 99S is selling like hotcakes? Are they copying some pro?

Intrigued to see if Fed continues to use the blacked out test racquet all the way throughout the US Open Series into the Open or if Wilson will introduce new racquet or just use the PS 90 paint job on this new frame. I think it might hurt sales but at the same time create a lot of buzz of what they will do which I guess is a pretty good move for their business.

I hate that racket, in all its versions. I tried the original black, yellow, red one the first to come out and hated it. Tried the red/white one and hated it. Tried both BLX versions and hated them. He's gotta have some other lay up I dunno. I used to play with the Pro Staff 85 as a junior and have hit with it recently and its a completely different racket, so much nicer. I've played with Prestige Mid's, Yonex RDS90 and other Mid rackets, have a one hander and the Tour 90 would be last on my list of rackets to choose :)

    Confirmed:

    http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013...ew-larger-racquet-hamburg/48394/#.UeW-yEHVB8E

Roger Federer is playing Hamburg this week with a new, larger Wilson racquet that is blacked out. Federer will try out the new frame against Daniel Brands on Wednesday. Federer has been playing with a BLX Pro Staff 90 (square-inch head) and said in his press conference that he is now playing with a larger, 98 square-inch frame. There is no Pro Staff at a 98 square-inch size, so the new frame is likely a Wilson Blade or Steam.

“I think 90% of the players on the ATP tour have head sizes between 95 and 100,” Federer said. “We have now tested this, and so far it’s going great. I can easily adjust with the new power.”

From the pic it looks to me like a H19/H22 with a 16x19. Sorry if I'm just reposting

I totally thought so as well - H22 / custom setup............but it really does not have the fully squared hoop of the H22 (at least from all the pics and seeing up close). Seems to have the shape of the retail Blade 98 16x19 with whatever layup under the paint for RF.

What do you guys think about his string setup now with the change? Go full poly; or poly mains and guts crosses; or wil he keep using the same setup he used on his 90' stick?

So far string set up has not changed - gut mains / lux cross - sure the tension has been adjusted to make up for the switch from 90 to 98.

This sure is big news. Kind of like the moon landings, or when John Lennon was shot. Only bigger.

Looks like one of my Pro Kennex frames. It's so dark, it's hard to see the accents. It will be fun reading the reviews of the new frame here - at least the retail version. We'll probably have to wait a bit longer for Fedace to get his hands on one of them.

Nadal was lucky to win his slams in an era when Federer was playing with a squash racquet.:)

Looking at my h22 16x19 and that pic with Fed holding the racquet I'm 90% positive its a H22 16x19, but I may be wrong... we'll all have to just wait and see

Drill pattern on Federer's frame looks denser (more regular spacing for 8 center mains) than on the Blade 98.

Why are people who play with the 90 worried about?
Obviously they can play with the 90 and Federer can't. What's the problem here?
