At about 1:12, could've done something serious then. But styles it out like a boss.

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xr0e2a_federer-s-1st-practice-at-roland-garros-in-2012_sport

Pretty neat practice video, he's hitting that backhand venomously (watch points after fall).

Fed's really getting the angles on it like I haven't seen since his prime-vintage years. Clearly been watching the Youtube re-runs and reworked the motion a little for this year.

Edit: oh ye, he hit's a tweener too.

This surface is too slippery. Federer must demand blue clay or boycott. It is clear this surface is impossible to play on.

The backhands look alright. I think it will be an interesting French Open this year.

What amazed me is how casually he ran to make the tween the legs shot. He just perfectly knew where the ball was going to be.

We will see.....he hasn't been great on red clay this season. We will see how it holds out.

Always good to see Federer practicing well. If the backhand catches fire during the tournament that would be a huge weapon (so long as serve holds!).

His practice partner is hitting low flat balls which Fed likes. He needs to practice driving that high BH.

I didn't mean interesting in terms of Federer winning another FO. While it's true this script of "interesting" has been presented umpteen times only for tennis fans to see a rerun, there shouldn't be any reason for Djoker to fall before the final. It should be interesting seeing a Djoker and Nadal final.

Is that Cilic he's practicing with?

That fall actually looked kind of nasty

LMFAO, the court looks kind of slippery and low bouncing, not good for the weenies, but perfect for Fed. Nadal is so dumb, he made it known he doesn't like slippery fast clay, so they made the clay slippery and fast at Roland Garros.

Its not Rafa on the other end. I bet I can rip some good backhands when I'm playing with a lesser partner in practice.

That's not like a boss. That's how any person would hit a backhand if they fell and could still make it :/

For this it is indeed a great video though! Love the backhands in this one. Wish it was shot in 60 fps, I would dissect every frame

Good backhands from the ideal striking zone, but he really needs to practice the head high bouncing ones...

Why do you think that? Federer takes the ball on the rise on his backhand, he doesn't play ten foot behind the baseline for any ball to get head high on him.

The height has nothing to do with Federer making errors on his BH side, it is the angle of bounce off the court, it is much steeper on clay and thus the timing has to be even more precise to hit BHs on the rise.

Watch his head and shoulders as he goes down, they even stay straight and upright right until he swings the backhand :)

    [EDIT]

I guess it's also proof that he really can't hit a two handed backhand

    Bad thread title.

I was expecting some crazy gymnastics, maybe including a back-flip. Disappointed in the GOAT.

    The key

For Federer is first serve %age. In the first set against Djokovic in Rome, he served 39%. That is just not going to get it done. He has served well for the last 6 months or so, hopefully he doesn't get that hickup on his serve in the later rounds.

Some of the comments reading into his form based on watching this short practice video are just retarded.

Seriously, saying he need to practice more high backhands etc based on a 2.20 video which was probably just him having his first hit out to get used to the court is nothing less than moronic..

Unfortunately Fed can't take every backhand on the rise, in the practice against Cilic it wasn't hard but against the more topspin dependent players he won't have nice backhands to hit all the time.

I can't stand Fed but our play styles are nearly identical....both composed of beautiful, one-handed backhands. :)

If Federer starts taking balls late and high and standing behind the baseline he is done.
Ball was fast last year Frenchies might just make it fast, slippery and low...LMAO.
He loves the French Open coming back year after years taking beatings greatness being defined late in his career.

Wow the courts look even more slippery than in Madrid... I don't think Fed had a fall like this in Madrid.

Do you think Nadal is about to threaten to boycott RG?

Not just okay, I am totally GOAT'ing.

    LOL.
All my predictions this year have been coming right.

Take it from me, that Roger wins a slam this year, and let it be the next one. Then we take it one at a time from there.

That would be sweet. But we all know he won't do that. You know, I know, everyone knows.

Yep. Thanks for the date!!!, I had noted some wrong dates from the RG site.
