Swiss Post is honoring ATP World No. 1 Roger Federer with a special stamp, which will be available from April 10, 2007.

The 25-year-old, who is the new record holder for most consecutive weeks (161) at No. 1 in the history of the ATP Rankings (since August 1973), breaking the almost 30-year record of Jimmy Connors, is an outstanding ambassador for Switzerland wherever he goes.

The Federer stamp is as unique as the sportsman himself, since living persons do not normally feature on stamps.

The exact design of the special stamp with a face value of one franc is still under wraps. The Federer stamp will be available from the issue date at all Swiss post offices and philatelic sales points.

Orders can be placed as of now on the Internet at www.post.ch/philashop or by phoning + 41 (0)31 338 06 09. There will be no advance sales.

First...he gets his own Beanie Bear and now his own stamp. What's next? Winning the French and the Grand Slam?

That seems to be Swiss tradition.

I think, Fed has no monopol; there are several players, who got a a stamp. Wimbledon had a series of stamps with players around 1990. Laver and Court got a stamp by the Australian post in 2002. Maria Bueno had a Brasilian stamp in 1960. I think Graf and Becker had some stamps by some unknown African governments.

I hope the American posters here are aware that Ashe got a stamp last year.

    I used the Ashe stamps.

My brother lives in Geneva. I'll ask him to send me a letter with Fed postage...and maybe sprayed with Fed cologne. *swoon*

"The United States Post Office, on the other hand, favors athletes long dead and gone - maybe so those it honors won't show up with a posse at some strip club and get in a shootout at 4 a.m."

They've have a good point there.
