Fed is -657 and Haas is +597. Does Tommy have a chance of winning a set or two?

Haas, I think, has as good a chance as anybody of beating him this tournament. I think he'll definitely take a set off of him. Haas is in great form right now and his game stacks up well against Federer. Obviously though, Federer's the man to beat.

Haas has no chance even to take a set, imo.

Haas could be so great if he had the right mental stableness. He get so upset and start throughing points sets and games away.

Some say he has a better serve and back hand than Fed? But in the end it does him no good as he gets so upset.

    Better backhand, yes.

Better serve... possible, but doubtful, IMO.

Better forehand - not a chance, Fed's forehand is lethal and Haas's isn't.

And, more importantly, movement - I think Fed has a clear edge on Haas there as well.

    Ditto!
It's just bad luck for Haas to meet Fed so early in Miami. Against anyone else I would like his chances, but not against Federer! :(

And transition! You can't underrate Federer's mid court game. He will either put away the ball or set himself up for an easy put away volley. Not something Haas does consistently.

Any respectable pro has a good shot to take a set off of Fed. He plays in cruise control until pushed. The results don't show that he's hard to get a set from, they show that he's VERY difficult to get 2 out of 3 (or God forbid 3 out of 5) from.

Richard Vach from Tennis-X is predicting Haas upsets. I think he's at the tourney so he may know something we don't.

Yeah, and his first pick of the tourney was Safin over Henman. He obviously didn't have any inside info on that one.

He was right about Sharapova vs. Camerin but that's not really going out on a limb. That match should have gone to 3 sets. Kirilenko had her chances against Sharapova but blew it. I don't think Sharapova can win the tournament. Mauresmo should win...it's never looked better for her.

Haas needs to gamble a bit to have a chance. If that's successful, he will win.
5 more minutes and the match will start!

Looks like Federer isn't messing around for this one.

It looks like Federer is playing himself.

    1 - 1 in the first set

"Tommy Haas isn't convinced of Roger Federer's greatness. Or of former player Jim Courier's astuteness as a television commentator.

Haas took a swipe at both following his 6-4, 6-0, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2 loss Monday night to Federer in a fourth-round match at the Australian Open.

Federer, a winner of six Grand Slam events in the past three years, hasn't won enough majors in Haas' opinion. Pete Sampras owns the record with 14.

"Everybody is talking about (Federer) being maybe the greatest ever," Haas said. "He still has to do a couple of things in my mind ... maybe this guy wins 15 Grand Slams."

Courier's flowery comments about Federer "makes me sick, almost," Hass added. Hass also made a crass remark about Courier's commentating, but later said, "I love Jim Courier." "
    ---------------------------------------------------------

I wonder if perhaps Haas is ready to change his tune yet? :D

I noticed that Roger's serving only at 108 miles per hour, is he taking some off it, this is pretty low for him:mrgreen: , he still kicking Haas's ass in this first set.

    6-1 to Fed 1st set.

I think Haas might've screwed himself by playing Roger tight before. Fed looks very focused and seems to have a choke hold on the match right now.

    It's not over yet ladies....
Like Henman said after his match: "It just goes to show whether you win the set 6-Love or 7-6, you only win a set for it."

Wow! Fed broke Haas 4 times! Twice each set and wasn't broken himself. That was was pure ownage man. Pure ownage. I guess that was the final then. The rest of the matches are just a formality.

What's with the weird camera angle in this match? I wish they had shown these rallies from a more conventional angle.

Can't be 6-3 if Fed broke Haas twice in 2nd set. nasdaq100open.com says Fed broke him 3 times.

I believe Fed broke him at 5-3 with Haas serving to win the match - maybe the nasdaq100open.com website didn't catch that yet?

Man, you really just have to tip your hat to Federer. This guy's game is just on another level. Haas I thought played a pretty solid match and yet he is soundly beaten 6-1, 6-3. Federer's forehand to me, in addition to his movement, was what really separated him in this match. He really got the best of Haas in those forehand exchanges. And the thing is, Haas' forehand right now is pretty darn good.
