Imagine if they found out that by hook or by crook, Ferrer was waiting in the final...

I wonder how each would be able to cope with that while they battle each other. As unlikely as it may be, anything can happen.

    Murray to bagel Roger, ahhahaaha.

If you put Federer's corpse in the other side of the court, Murray would commit 4 double faults to loss at least a game.

    At Olympics2012:

    federer d. Del Potro 3-6 7-6 19-17 (equivalently 3-6 7-6 7-6 6-7 6-4) in the SF
    Murray d. federer 6-2 6-1 6-4 in the F

I'm looking forward to see if Murray can beat his personal record of losing 7 games or fewer against federer in best of 5 sets. :p

I would still favor Federer even after that grueling match with Tsonga. I hope Muzza suprises me and shows how much he matured since their last encounter.

Murray in 4. Court suits him better. His defense and consistency will frustrate Fed. If Fed takes the 1st set, then Murray in 5.

Yeah, I think you gotta point. Serve to stay in the match that many times took a toll emotionally and may be he was drained totally.

I was also tensed during the math. Hope Roger wins on friday.

Gotta go with Murray in 4 here unfortunately. Having said that I have faith in Roger. He can win, but it's unlikely, especially after that 5 setter.

It was a short 5 setter.
Murray will be fresher (even though all his matches were in the Ozy sun) but far less battle hardened, and Federer is more used to night court conditions.
I guess these factors balance out so it probably just boils down to the best player winning.
When Murray had to play his USO 2008 final against Federer the day after his semi final win over Nadal, most people were saying Murray was outplayed not that the scheduling or hard semi final affected the result.

Don't worry Federer will have a nice ice bath, and come back fresh as a purple vermillion le blanc de' chalon daisy and beat Murray in 2 and 7/8ths sets

On a slightly serious note I'd take federer in 4? Murrays had a rather slack draw, and I believe Freds playing rather well, but he tightens up so darn much in big points, I rarely have any faith in him when his got break points, his break point conversion lately has been painful

Good points. I just think Murray will win this one. Even if Federer is 100% for this match, I'd still favour the post slam winning Murray over Federer on this court. Like I said, it will not shock me if Roger wins, but I think Murray takes this one. Also it does not mean I've given up hope on Roger, and/or will be cheering for Murray. Hell would have to freeze over before that happened.

How do you see this one going mate? (I know how you want it to go) I think it really could go either way but that Murray has a great shot I don't think Feds
Five setter will be a big factor as it wasn't that long a match!

Fed was not impressive, Murray's had an easy time, it's best of 5. All circumstances favor Murray. Courts are pretty darn slow as well.

I recall the bookies had Murray as the favourite to win the 2009 AO after he had just beaten Federer and Nadal (Abu Dhabi) and Federer again (Doha).
Fed wasn't amused and commented something like, "I don't think it will help him much". He was right, it didn't.

    I think he's still right!

I think this match is 50/50.
Federer winning the first set then Murray picking it up and who knows after that.
    Could be another classic.

It seems to me that fans of both players are a bit negative when it comes to their players chances. Like the Murray fans are fearful that he hasn't played a night match (understandable) and are making cases for Roger to win, and vice versa for Fed fans when it comes to the 5 setter with Tsonga, and the surface favouring Murray. Very strange, but I guess it's a healthy respect for the players.

When anyone plays Federer I don't think you can ever be too optimistic.
Not based on scheduling, night matches etc but based on the fact you're playing Federer is enough.

Fed should be fine, no excuses, if he loses its because Murray outplayed him.

I honestly don't like Feds chances against Murray though because murray's defence can frustrate fed and generate a lot of errors off Feds fh side. It should be a good indicator of how much Murray has matured since the 2010 final.

Lol at people who thought the chardy match would be harder than the tsonga one ;)

I am glad roger wasn't out there too long, still i would have preferred him to play in the day.

What's the head to head, is it even? Roger has never been ahead except in the first meeting so i pick Murray to go ahead again. prediction - fed serves first and gets broken right away. Murray wins the set fed wins set 2 but Murray wins in 4.

agreed, the bookies might have the money on Muzza but it won't affect Fed. or how he plays.
Just hoping it is a great match.

In that case, no excuses for Murray losing their other 3 slam meetings, right? Fed outplayed him.

So Fed beat Murray in 2010 AO final because Murray hasn't matured yet, that sounds like an excuse now, doesn't it?

I thought Murray played exceptionally well today.
If Murray was even slightly off it could have been tough.
Chardy himself thought he played a good match and admitted Murray was simply too good.

I admit I was surprised it wasn't a bit closer given the way Chardy had been playing and the fact that Murray had been a bit underpar in his previous rounds.

Overall H2H is currently still 10-9 to Murray but Fed is, of course, 3-0 in their Slam meetings.

Fed briefly levelled it after Wimbledon at 8-8 first time they had been level since after us open final in 2008 at 2-2 (off top of my head haha I am a geek) :p

I will have a shot in the darkness - Fed in 4/5 sets.
This match with Tsonga must give him some confidence. Fed has to serve extremely well. Difficult match but Fed can surely win.

I'm sorry Towser but based on form, Chardy could and should of been trouble for Murray. Sadly for us, like Tsonga, he's French and they just can't do anything right. Chardy was pathetic from the get go and Tsonga lost the plot when in control (Fed got away with it).

Anyway, to this match. Anyone can win this but I'm gonna go for Fed because I don't like Andrew Murray. 8)

It would be surprising if either of these players could beat Djokovic in the final anyway. Now that Djokovic had his major test and survived it I dont see anyone or anything stopping him here.

I really don't know... I voted for Andy in 5, but that's not necessarily what I think will happen.

I hope for Andy in whichever way he likes. Hopefully nothing too grueling though, since this isn't the final. ;)

Yeah but there was zero chance chardy would actually play well enough to trouble Murray on the day. Murray is a step up for him and i just couldn't see it being a tough match. Tsonga has given Murray tough 4 setters in recent time and he's tested fed and beaten him too the last few years.

Basically Tsonga should've beaten Djokovic at RG 2012 with those 4 match points and should've (or could've) beaten Federer here today at AO.
Tsonga is probably the best player in the world if you put some real self belief in him.

Chardy could of least made him work for the match lol. About Tsonga, true, just he hasn't shown any proof of form that he did today throughout this tournament at all.

Even with his recent record with Fed, was surprised tbh.

I don't think Murray will win in less than 5. I could see Fed pulling it out in 3 or 4, but if it goes to 5 advantage Murray. Going with that, Murray in 5.

he did beat fed at Wimbledon in 2011.

Tsonga is the only guy to have beaten fed, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray at slams. the guy could do so much more than he has.

Did you see the match F!? Murray would have thumped most players today.
There was nothing, as Chardy admitted, he could have done about it.

I hear lots of people complain about Djokovic not being tested by players but it's the same thing going on with him.

    Chardy's comments after the match:

"I played a good match, but he was too good for me," said Chardy. "I thought I tried many things, but there was no chance for me. He was too good. I played a good tournament, so I'm still happy. But it's tough to lose with no solution."

Murray kept going to his BH, which was exposed as being a real weakness, which is why he kept making errors. It's a known fact that his FH is his best shot and best to be avoided. It's simply not possible for him to make it a better shot in such a short amount of time. Contrary to DelPo, Murray obviously had a game plan and executed it.

    Pitiful post!

I take offense to fed's name being in lowercase when the others are not. How could you possibly do that to the goat? I think if fed saw this fed would be ashamed. Remind you of anyone? :)
