It's weird that so many people think that the result of a SF of a Masters is a foregone conclusion so no-one bothered to make a thread for it. Paire actually took out Del Potro in straight sets, owned Granollers in the previous round by the score of 6-0 6-1 so the dude can play.

I was going to make a thread, but I know there are other more premier posters who'd go ahead and take care of it. Fed in 2.

6-3 6-2 Fed. Very easy matchup for him.

Eh Paire is first round material for Fed, upsets notwithstanding. Does it even matter if Fed wins, though? Any thoughts of winning Rome went out the window after Novak's shock exit.

Was this thread even necessary? Paire has to be just about the easiest SF opponent of Fed's career.

paire wins one game..only because an aphid flew into federers eye on break point..so even that game doesn't count really.

He did take 4 games off of him last year in Basel, arguably Fed's best surface and home crowd. Not saying that Paire will even take a set, but could give Fed some quality rope-a-dope hitting practice.

    6-4, 6-3

paire is playing fantastic tennis at the moment... so talented.

it's going to be a fun match for sure. i actually want it to go to three sets, but think Federer will probably close him out in two.

    ^^ LOL!!!

There might be a good reason why Paire has reached the semi here. Playing impressive tennis, perhaps? The guy is very talented and on the rise. The conclusion that it will be a walk in the park for Fed might well backfire if one underestimates the guy.
That said - most probably Fed in two.

Yeah but it's Fed, and this is the first time Paire's been on this stage playing a Semi-Final in masters series. I expect him to feel some nerves, and not to mention the fact that he's playing maybe the second best clay court player.

Also isn't this the same Paire that was taken out by Ferrer pretty badly last year at the French?

Yeah he's actually pretty talented guy but got lucky with the draw.. Cmon Monaco, Granollers and DelPo (on clay). Compare with Nadal or Berdych. Easy win for Fed.

    Yep

6-2 6-2 in Basel last year
6-2 6-4 6-1 in the AO this year

Both matches Fed was on a 'meh' level.

With this Fed? I highly doubt Paire could do much.

I have to confess to being ignorant of Paire's credentials. Surely it would be a monumental upset if he troubled Federer.

That semi sounds like an April fool's joke. Paire is 2nd round material, which is a summary of Fed's draw really apart from Simon. This one has to be ranking up there among softest draws in the history of master events.

Fed is in a tough position now. He would have liked to have tanked this match in order to avoid a 20-10 head-to-head against Buttdal....except nobody is going to believe a loss against Paire.

I reckon Fed is going to routine Paire by the same scoreline by which he will be routined by Nadal in the final.

Lol, Fed is probably the greatest player of open era and I'm pretty sure he believes in his chances for every match, even one against the clay goat (especially since he has already beaten said clay GOAT twice). That doesn't change the fact that his path to the final is almost challenger-like.

I wouldn't underestimate Paire, players on fire are always dangerous and he's got a solid backhand ala Benny.

Prediction: This SF will be more competitive than Berdych-Nadal

He also played Ferrer who's ranked #4. Fed won't have played a top 10 until the final.

He hasn't done anything really noteworthy...a couple of 250 finals in 2012, 0-11 vs top 10 before this tournament.
Not sure if he will carry on or just fold here.

You were talking about Federer's semifinal opponent, and Andujar is equally as laughable.

Please! Federer should thrash him in two easy sets. If he loses to Paire, it will not exactly be great.

Ferrer, yeah a guy who can't beat another top 4 player unless they retire mid match or give him a walkover. The only reason he's #4 is because he plays twice as many tournaments as the rest of the pack. I admit he's a hard working guy but top 4 is deceiving.

You say the same thing in every thread. Let's not forget Nadal's road to the Madrid title: Paire, Youzhny, Ferrer, Andujar, Wawrinka. It doesn't get any easier than that. At least Fed will have to play Nadal to win the title.

Funny, Fedal are getting the rub of the green when it comes to draws these days while Novak is left to suffer.

Top 4, ok Nadal will take that over soon but he completely deserves #5 at the very least.

Nah, I want him to face Nadal. You never know, he may just beat him this time. It is not best of five on clay, he has a shot if he can keep up his form.

Are you stalking me? Should I report you? That's my opinion. Why shouldn't I reiterate it. Do you want proof? He's played 11 tournaments this year. Federer has played 5. Murray has played 7. Djoker has played 7. Should I go on? If he played the same number of tournaments as those guys he wouldn't even be in the top 5. He plays enough "Mickey Mouse" tournaments that he can discount the bad results and only keep the ones he wins, which brings up his ranking.

Djoko has a long history of impossibly tough draws. I made a tally a while back of draws with highest ranked players and most high ranked players in them and Djoko ended up at the top of the list. Did you know that he won Canada 2007 by beating #3, 2 and 1 back to back?
Last year, he had #5, 3 and 2 in both Rome and RG. And if you take a closer look, you'll see that it's extremely rare for a player to face 3 opponents ranked that high even in slams.

Which is funny, since his draw had good upset material and wasn't really easy at all. But that was last Sunday. Things changed pretty quickly...

Paire beat Granolla who beat Murray. Fed can only play the guy across the net.

Well, Murray and Delpo haven't exactly been in scintillating form lately. I was expecting better from Tsonga and Gasquet but French players are unreliable and flaky by tradition

Ok, you can keep thinking Ferrer's year so far of a slam semi, masters final, semi and quarter is not good enough to be top 5 if you want to.You can keep thinking Ferrer being ranked 2000+ points ahead of Berdych, Del Potro and Tsonga is because of mickey mouse tournaments if you want to. There ya go.

Ha ha! I wonder how often that's happened: guy wins 1, 0 then loses 1,0 the next round.

Fed in 2. Something like 3 and 1. Paire will start clowning and making travel arrangements about the 45 minute mark.

Draw has been good to Fed, but he still needs to beat Nadal in the final. As always, he's looked more impressive than Nadal the whole tourny, and as always, he'll find a way to lose.

Fed's BH looks fine. Fed needs to stay focused and motivated and Nadal stands no chance. While Nadal leads the H2H over Fed, Fed has delivered more beatdowns. Because when Fed is confident, serving well and focused, nobody can touch him. Not even today.
