After the illustrious career of the great roger federer winds to a close, will federer have the dubious distinction of turning from the greatest of all time to the next great instructor? I have wondered this presumption in my time. On one hand, I can see Roger really stepping up and getting back into the game, perhaps many years after raising his beautiful children. Lets not look past this guy, he loves the game and respects past champions. Roger truly epitomizes the very best in all areas of the game of tennis. Roger is a great role model for todays youth, among others tennis players. Roger is see as a goodwill ambassador and one who wants to see others follow in the right path. Will Federer be the next Brad Gilbert--or will he emerge from the shadows late in life and amend himself to a Jimmy Connors role?

nobody can afford his rate
secondly, it would be tough for federer to leave his wife and kids home while he travels with the player. even darren cahill couldn't do it (that's why he turned down the position as federer's coach)

I feel that both these threads address different issues wether fed will coach is different from who would theoreticly make a better coach if nadal and fed both became coaches

a lot of players who have been at the top (eg Agassi, Sampras, Borg, McEnroe) don't end up coaching, so I don't think Federer will either.

First, he needs Agassi to coach him for the post 30's.

Yup, it's going to happen. Old Agassi 2.0

There's no point. He can't possibly achieve anything as a coach that is remotely close to his success as a player. There's no upside, only downside.

If Federer does coach, I bet the poor guy's head would explode with the tactics that Federer comes up with :p

But heck, why not? Federer loves the game, and just because Sampras and Agassi doesn't coach, doesn't mean Fed doesn't have to.
Its like Garry Kasparov is now coaching Magnus

Federer would yell and scream his head off at anyone he was supposed to be coaching. He's a perfectionist in his own game, and would not tolerate anybody else's game which is guaranteed to be less that perfect,,,,hence the need for a coach,

But I can see him going on speaking tours and like Bill Clinton get $100,00 a speach.

His speach topics could include "Clothing for the successful man", "Slam your way to success" "Women are the key to men's success"

  20. Lots off former greats are returning too the limelights and the glory years after they retired as if to say"-hey dont forget about me alright"? I cant see Fed doing this. Maybe...if some kid breaks his xx Grand Slam wins...?
