Who's with me?
how could he ?
By winning 7 matches in a row.
i'd better say by winning 4 matches + benefiting from 3 walk over
If he avoids Murray,Djokovic,Nadal,Delpo,Berdych,Tsonga and ofcourse the mighty Sergiy Stakhovsky then yeah, he would look odds on to take the title. Seriously tho, of the top 8 players who does he realistically have a chance of beating on hardcourt? Ferrer maybe?
Murray/Djokovic/Delpo are playing too damn well lately and it can be argued that they will be playing on their best surface so there is no way he'll beat them. Nadal has beaten him twice already this year and his H2H dominance is unlikely to change here. That leaves Berdych/Tsonga who have also both beaten him this year and have been capable of beating him in the past.
If Federer even makes it to the QF then thats where his challange ends at the hands of whoever in the top 8 he plays.
I sort of want him to, but at the same time don't want him to. If he does then it's amazing, but if he doesn't then I can root for Murray to get slam #3 and improve his own chances of ending 2013 as #1.
As long as they don't have to face each other I guess it'll be easier 8)
Well that is too defeatist, it's not like he is guaranteed to lose to any top 8 player except Ferrer. But it still seems unlikely he would get through and win 7 matches in a row.
If he is there in the semis, I'll be happy.
Sorry can't see it happening. Djok/Muzz too strong.
If he has to go to the USO, those guys are for from being the most problematic people who he can play against. He has more to fear of ballbashers that can put him out of the court in two shots. AKA The Tsonga or especially The Berdych, guys who love to go in his draw for some reason. And if the surface is even slower than last year, he's indeed far from doing it. But it has little to do with Murray and Djokovic being too strong. He'd prefer having them at the USO rather than the AO.
Federer will fall to Matthew Ebden.
Lol, now Tsonga and Berdych have better chances to beat Federer than Djokovic??????? Are you serious???????
Even in the best circumstances if he gets through the big hitters (Tsonga/Berdych), he'll still have Djoker and Muzz to contend with. I'm afraid he just won't have enough energy at the tail end of a slam to overcome an obstacle like that. Hopefully he can get a favorable draw, but his luck in that department is lacking as of recent.
Federer is going to drop the hammer on Stakhovsky if they play at the US Open.
Fed has made 2 finals in the last 14 majors. Saying he will win the USO is ambitious at the very least.
(Although if by some miracle he wins, I'd be ecstatic)
Roger Federer has won 5 US Opens, the rest of the field have won 5 US opens.
Therefore it is probably 50/50 as to whether Federer wins the US Open.
I'd love to see it happen because I'm a huge RFed fan but, being honest, I had to vote no. I hope he proves me wrong.
As will I. I don't think he will win it either, but at this point, I'm just looking for a nice run.
No. Not with the way he's playing.
There's no reason to even put him in the top 3/4 of people who could win this tournament.
Right now he just needs to focus on some baby steps... win those 250's he's entered in.. defend Cincy.
if he gets on a roll with his form.. then maybe we can talk about him even making the semis.
He's not playing slam-winning tennis right now. It's hard to imagine him making a semi... let alone beating someone like Murray or Nole.
If he avoids 5 setters and/or 4 hour matches, he could very well win it all.
Heart says yes, head says no. You can never rule out a player with his ability but I dont see it happening. He will have to be in ferrers quarter of the draw to have a reasonable chance of making the semi's and would probably need one of the other big guys to get knocked out so he only has to play one of them. Then he could do it possibly.
Reaching week two would be a triumph for the once great one.
actually i had a crazy thought.
not long time ago, in Melbourne he played according to me a great tournament!
beat Davydenko, Paire, Raonic and Tomic without droping a set.
Then beat Tsonga in 5 and lost to Murray in 5.
That was a good result, wasn't it ?
Maybe Roger should skip Canadian open + Cincinnati to arrive fresh in NY and do something good ? (i don't mean winning for reach the semi, would be like a win for him  )
Olderer to retire after humiliating defeat at USO13
Well, considering his age, and his out-of-the-top4 condition, he depends on the draw more than ever. If he happen to get Ferrer at quarters and a semis against a clown, then he has chances in the final. We all know he can be a different animal in a GS final.
But at the end, its about a low percentage of luck. My guess is he will go home at quarters.
His performances at slams this year have got progressively worse. Semi finals at Oz open, quarters at the french, 2nd round at wimbledon. Could a 1st round exit be on the cards??
As much as I would never rule out Federer of winning any tournament, I can't see him winning the US Open 2013 unless Djokovic and Murray are not taking part.
