Here are some close up pics of Federer’s personalised Nike ‘RF’ bag, in this case the 2008 USO version of the bag in the smoke, comet red and whte colourway. It’s basically the same type of bag that he carries along with his Wilson racquet bag for the slams and masters events, except that the colourway (and perhaps material) usually varies according to the outfit he is wearing for that particular event. While opinion is divided on the bag, including many questioning whether it’s less than manly to carry such a bag, I think its a really nice bag, especially this 2008 USO version. I suppose it comes down partly to the colourway, I’m not too crazy about the 2009 Wimbledon version, with glittering gold at both ends of the bag, but the 2008 Wimbledon version is nice. The bag itself is pretty functional, with a number of side pockets and compartments of various sizes, and it is quite a sturdy and heavy bag. The inside of the bag has gold linings. And of course, the RF monogram is ubiquitous, from the big one on one side of the bag to smaller ones all over the rest of the bag. The RF monogram seemed to have disappeared from his bag from late last year and the first half of this year (it was missing from events including Indian Wells, AO and FO), not sure why, but it made a comeback at Wimbledon..and I’m glad it’s back.

Nice, where did you find this bag?

Since it's got Fed's signature, i would assume you got it from an auction place?

um...I paid quite a bit for it, but I'd rather not say as its just gonna get all kinds of reactions. Its really just for my collection, not using it or anything.

Whatever you paid for it, you can rest assured that in a few years time it will worth more than double in value. :)

Yeah, a bit too purse-like for my taste. I'm glad he's that comfortable with himself, though.

Its a really nice bag and makes a great collectors Item. I would like to have one, probably a little bit too pricy, but I think it was worth it. Good buy!

That's an interesting observation. When I first got the bag, I tried looking for a label to find out where the bag is manufactured, maybe a "made in China" label or something, but there was none. Maybe the bag is made in the US or Europe, I don't know, as not all of Roger's personal gear are necessarily made in China (I have one of Roger's US Open shorts and it's made in the US), and I have to admit the workmanship on the bag is pretty good, not like one of those mass produced bags from a factory. And I was also told by Roger's people that Nike only made 2 of these bags, in this colourway that is, and possibly only 2 for each of the different versions of the bag. So in a sense, the bag is a much more limited item than say Roger's personal RF shirt or shoes, which he would definitely have more pieces of, but I wouldn't need to tell you that his actual shirts and shoes, especially those from his winning slams, are more sought after than his bags for sure.

Hey MichaelChang, great to hear from you again :)

Hey Fabfed, if one day you decide to get one of his RF polos please post pics and tell us how much different it is to the retail version. :D

It's not an issue of you wanting to buy it or not (well, I'm not selling it anyway), I'm just not comfortable with revealing the price of the bag on this forum, as I have said earlier. But post your email and I will let you know.

Ya, I love the detailing too, did you notice the trophy 4 logo (for his 4 US open wins) on one of the red leather sides? I didn't even see it until I took the photo. I got it from his auction site, but he doesn't really release his RF bags for auction. As far as I know, the only other time he auctioned one of his RF bags was last year, the 2008 white Wimbledon RF bag (its in one of the photos I posted). He didn't release this year's Wimbledon bag during the recent auction of his 2009 Wimbledon items, but who knows, maybe it'll turn up later :)

Ha you read my mind...as a matter of fact I am planning to post pics of his RF polos. There have been quite a number of postings on this issue, on the obvious differences between his personalised RF polos and the retail versions, apart from the RF monogram, and questions on why the need for the difference - I've got a theory why this is so, and it has nothing to do with vanity on Roger's part. I will share it when I put up the pics of the RF shirts next to the retail shirts, maybe this weekend :)

You get stuff mass produced at China. A few bags is not worth it.

i wouldnt be surprised if it was made in europe. the united states doesnt have a big hold on the leather industry. Which is really dominated by brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, where the leather is so beautiful.

You know I think the bag would look much better with a shoulder strap like a regular duffle bag. Instead of the handles, he could just sling it over his shoulder and it'll look easier to carry too. Whenever he brings one of these bags on the court, it does look like a huge purse since he has to hold it like one, but if used a shoulder strap and have it lower on his side like a messenger/duffle, would look much cooler.
