Ive tried the poly main gut cross before on a different racket (aerostorm) and with different strings and the result was very similar. No bite and pretty stiff and some trampolining. Its actually not bad for volleys but very unforgiving on the serve and baseline since the strings do not seem to bite into ball and you are forced to make exaggerated swings to generate spin.

So I restrung with gut main and poly cross using the same strings, tension and racket and it is much better. The strings have much better bite, softer on the arm and forgiving yet still delivers a heavy ball. This was a big surprise to me since I always thought the mains were most responsible for the spin but its clearly the cross poly strings that are grabbing the ball.

just watching the Federer/Bellucci match, and it looks like Fed might be using a different string on the cross, possibly 4G. From the pictures I saw on yahoo, they have a goldish glow, but its hard to tell. Still no concrete evidence, but just pointing out what I saw. What do you guys think?

    fed's new set up

Looks like new crosses, perhaps a different nat gut given they're goldish color. It also appears that he switched his alu's to the mains (where they should have been all along to get max spin and power). Check out the slow mo closeup during the change over after the 7th game of the 3rd set of the Bellucci exo on youtube.Comments?
Let's hope he now has his polys as the mains. If he had done this years ago he'd have a few more GS's under his belt. He'd dominate the baseline once again against today's big hitters (Djoke Mur Delpo Berdy Rafa etc)

Poly/gut seems like such a waste to me. It'd be interesting if Fed decided to switch them now. Who knows, maybe he'll even start using 4G!

Did fed's racket look bigger to anyone?
I felt like that rumor needed to drummed up again.

Yeah, I just watched the Federer - Haas exhibition and it definitely looked like he's switched to the new Lux 4G in the crosses. I'd be surprised if he switched the mains too though, they looked like gut?
