According to the Luxilon website Roger Federer was using ALU power rough in the mains at wimbledon this year.

As far as I know Fed has always used Lux BB ALU Power Rough on his mains and Babolat VS Natural ThermoGut on his crosses. Both 16 gauge.

Some time back there was a guy with federer's racquet and said that he had Wilson gut in the mains and ALu power in the crosses. Don't know how credible it was though

It's possible ... I'll have to check up on that 'cuz I wonder how Fed could be fooled into using Wilson's gut.

Wilson gut in the mains which is actually made by babolat and is exactly the same.

And the ALU in the crosses.

What I always heard and saw last year at Wimby was Bab VS in the mains, and ALU Power Rough in the crosses. I looked at pics from Toronto, and it looks like a natural colored string in the mains, so that would conclude nat gut still there, and I can't tell what color the cross is, but I bet it's still the same nat gut mains, alu crosses

ALSO, as of this year's wimbledon, it was alu in the crosses still

Really, can you provide some pics? I took it as a fact since the luxilon website said it was ALU in the mains (they could just as easily said in teh crosses).

He was always using Wilson Nat Gut, not VS as we were informed. He uses Wilson Natural Gut mains and Alu rough in the x's.

In this pic, you can kinda see the silver of the crosses: http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/photos/imagepages/2004-07-03/200407031088856377343.html

Look at this one. You can CLEARLY see the mains are a natural color, and the crosses are silver of some sort: http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/photos/imagepages/2004-07-03/200407031088857194938.html

This one isn't too definitive, but it still looks silver in the crosses (at least by the top) and natural colored mains: http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/photos/imagepages/2004-06-21/200406211087828439916.html

And here, most recent of them all, in Canada. Look at that and tell me it's not a natural string in the mains and a silver in the crosses. If you don't believe me, look by the 3 o'clock position, silver if I've ever seen it: http://canada.masters-series.com/1007/players/gallery/

From earlier this year, around Aussie Open, I think ... this is pretty definitive. Wait a few seconds and an icon pops up in-picture to let you zoom in. Alu rough CROSSES, no question. I think he used Bab VS very early on, as he carried the double line on his strings up until 2001 or so, and then switched to Wilson gut.

Roger and I are great mates and he gave me all his "Tour 90s" when he switched ...

If only! It was on the boards a while back and I just saved it. Can't remember who posted it but it was such a good picture I thought it was worth saving. Always very useful to refer back to when the paintjob debates gets going ...

The racquet stringers association magazine, which I guess takes inventory of players racquets and strings during Grand Slam and other events list Roger as having Wilson natural gut in the mains and ALU BB rough in the crosses.
