What is the best way to find a doubles partner? I can not even find a hitting partner so I had to buy a ball machine. Is there local forums or something to help with this. I am in Houston.

Finding someone to play with is certainly different from finding a good doubles partner. Finding a good doubles partner is like finding a good partner in life... whoever you choose had better have the same temperment (or at least one you can deal with) and have the same basic goals and work ethics as yourself. I think probably the most important thing is someone that supports you during those rough patches in a heated match. I myself have to work on laughing and shaking my head when my partner misses an easy shot.

As for finding someone to play with... I guess you could always post somewhere like craigslist... I just started playing again after 15 years... and I noticed that once I was invited to play the circle grew quickly. I started playing at a local park with a group of 2.0 seniors... and now a few months later my circle includes about 40 people. The latest invitation is from a group of 4.0/4.5 private club members, and the list continues to grow. I have always found that tennis people are a pretty social group and as long as you can get along with the community you are welcome back.

Where I used to play they had a hitting wall which was perfect for picking up a game... don't worry about the skill level of those you play with, the thing is if they are regulars to the area people know people.

I don't know where you live in Houston but I just moved back to Nawlins from Houston a couple years ago. I played at Memorial park, there are plenty of USTA leagues and the guys around their will help you find players. I also think they have a flex league in Houston.

Thanks for the help I am going to look into that. I had already joined the meet up group but there doesn't seem to be much activity from there.

Just find people to play with first. You can't choose a doubles partner until you already know someone. Craigslist, play in USTA tournaments, join a USTA team (contact local coordinator if you don't know any captains)
