I'm finding one of the most difficult things to do is to arrange for playing/practice for my young one outside of private or group lessons. I've read article after article about how American tennis is failing at the grass-roots level ... and while I don't believe that completely, I would think we would have more success if it was simpler to get groups of kids together to just play w/minimal expense. Outside of 'formal' matches and tournaments, there really aren't many kids in our area that are able to hang out at a club and just play. Clubs really kill with court time ... it would be fantastic if there were blocks of time that parents could pitch in towards and just let kids play.

Wondering if others have found this to be the case in their area as well, or if anyone has heard of approaches that address this and might be worthwhile suggesting at the club?

Our club has a policy that if the lights are on and the courts are unused kids in the Junior Development program can play on the courts for free. *The caveat is they can not reserve the court and if adults reserve the court and show up the kids have to leave the court.
