Fischer CONFUSION!!!!!!! FISCHER PRO WHAT?!?

I was wanting to order some Fischer Pro Extreme FT racquets; however, when I went to order...the fischer pro extreme had the new fischer pro tour cosmetics. I wanted the Shaughnessy cosmetics and not the Sprem. I really don't care which cosmetics they are, they are both black and yellow....but I want to make sure that it's the same racquet I demoed in November 2004. I talked to 2 ladies today at tennis warehouse and they said that the specs WERE the exact same as the original Extreme. The odd thing about it that the racquets are now called "Fischer Pro Tour Extreme". The reason I wrapped up into it is because these 2 fischers have a good bit of difference in them. The Pro tour has a 98" head, while the Extreme has the 95" head. They weight a good half ounce to ounce apart. Also, I checked the American Fischer Tennis website and they show the Shaughnessy and the Sprem cosmetics of them, and they appear to be 2 separate models.

As far as i know, the Pro Extreme FT has been renamed to the Pro Tour Extreme FT, and the specs have not changed and the graphics have not changed (yellow neck, black throat, yellow 3/9). Fischer introduced a new model called the Pro Tour FT that has a 98 sq in head and reverse graphics (black neck, yellow throat, black sides). Make sure when you order it is the Pro Tour Extreme FT with the same graphics you demoed in November. FWIW, I only am privy to the information Fischer actually releases on their web sites, I don't have any inside sources.

P.S. Just a though--if they're going to continue to make the Extreme, how come it doesn't have a leather grip. If you wanna be EXTREME! you gotta go leather... ;-)

Right. The new Pro Tour Ft w/reverse graphics was reviewed in last month's Tennis magazine.

I don't know who the genius is who is marketing for Fisher, but they aren't doing too great of a job. The Pro Impact Ft is going to now be called the Pro No. 1 Impact FT, according to the Fisher International website, it was supposed to available in the US Dec. 1 but no sign of it anywhere...Ok, I just checked the TW site and if you click on the Pro Impact FT a picture of the new Pro No. 1 Impact FT shows up.

Craig is right about the Pro Extreme FT now being called the Pro Tour Extreme FT. I recently switched to the Pro Extreme and can verify that these two racquets are the same. The only difference in the cosmetics is really that now the word Tour appears on the side of the racquet over Pro Extreme; the fischer logo on the butt of the racquet is yellow; and the word Pro is in black letters instead of the dot letters. Craig, call Mike Patrick he wants to talk to you and he got me to make the switch to the Fischers.

atatu,

You're darned right about marketing at Fischer. I wish they would get a little more focused on their approach. I agree renaming the Pro Impact FT to the Pro No. 1 Impact FT is just creating more confusion, as well as renaming the Extreme and having 2 models w/ Tour in the title w/ similar graphics. They remind me of Apple back in the '90s--when they had crazy names and numbers for their Macs and were all over the place.

If I were them, I'd drop the Pro from their name and simplify the names: just call them Impact, Tour, Pro One, Extreme. And make them unique and easily recognizable color schemes.

Thanks Joe, I'll give Mike a buzz when I can.
