When I was shaving this morning, I have a habit of looking in the mirror and opening my nostrils wide. I looked at my nose and noticed first of, that I had nose hair (I know, gross) and then I saw a tiny white miny strand of hair clinging to my nose. I first thought it was a piece of a dog hair but then I tried taking it out but it wouldn't budge.

Then the possibility of something like this happening hit me, at the tender age of 19. I got a white hair? How is this possible, I felt super young at that point, I just had a bit of stress following a patellar dislocation meaning no tennis for 4 weeks and crutches and a knee immobilizer for 3 weeks. I had a huge bio test and there is a girl that I like in the class that I desperately need to talk to before the semester runs out.

I heard stuff about a b12 deficiency etc.

But I think that I might be in denial although I have a huge head of black hair and the fact that my hair grows super fast and I sometimes wish I had the opposite of rogaine.

I don't want to deny that this may be the start of aging and getting older, but I am hoping that this might be a fluke. I black hair around my whole body.

I don't know what to do, I'm a little depressed.

Poor boy. this is serious stuff. I think all of us should put everything aside, and help out our dear Fandango.

He has a white hair, and there's also a girl he likes, but he ain't sure if she likes him. These are serious things and need to be addressed before they become deeper issues and scar his psyche for life.

    Fandango,
This human body keeps changing, and deteriorating, aging etc. Don't expect it to be immortal. Welcome change. Keep a healthy life.

Hair doesnt turn gray by stress, it just grows gray after that follicle runs out of melanine. It is a genetical thing (most of the time). What have you been sniffing? some chemicals can do this. Oh by the way, it is not a big deal to have gray hair at a young age, chicks dig it! now, baldness is another story...

A friend of mine had that happen at 18. By 20, the gray had spread to his head, and by 25, he was completely gray and starting to lose hair. By 32, he was bald as a cue ball (even his eyebrows fell out). On the other hand, his back hair really came in heavily during that period. He told me that the doctor said that the nose hair was an indicator of a syndrome called Valde Insignificant Sollicitudo. If I were you, I'd be looking to nail down a wife.........soon.

Stress happens, life happens. It's ONE white hair, you're not going to see a huge amount of them until later in your life, and honestly you have nothing to worry about.

Whatever the biological process, stress can make it happen. I know from personal experience. Please do a little research next time before answering.

Just let the coke work its way through and stop being so impatient to get every last crumb right now. Sheesh.

Maybe listen to an old Richard Pryor skit.

CAUTION: Whatever you do, do NOT pull the little white hair. Research says that 7 out of 10 white hair yankers end up extracting their brain matter via the nasal passage. Just so you know ...

It is an incurable genetic disease that manifest itself in late teens, the white nose hair is precursor to genital shrinkage and gastrointestinal irritation causing chronic flatulence.

my god, you guys are so kind. whatever happened to the old tradition of breaking bad news gently.

In any case, if he's losing grey cells, he probably won't be smart enough to know he's shrunk.

I know about white hair ( I have had it since my 18s), I have researched, stress may speed up the process but it doesn't "turn" you hair white, if one hair is born black it will remain black until it falls. I also know this for experience, in one bussiness trip I was under a big deal of stress and I notice more gray hair in my head, after asking a doctor it turned out that the water of that country made my already white hair look whiter :).

The last part is certainly not true.

When I grew my hair long I noticed I had some brown-tipped, white-rooted hairs, therefore hair (at least mine, and I'm no mutant) can change color as it grows.

Yes, that is how it happens, I guess I did not express myself well, my point is that the part that is black will not turn white.

My daughter started going gray at 14.

When I met my husband at age 24, he was about 50% gray.

That's okay - I was just denied entry into a government building this week because the guard said that I looked way, way older than the picture from my driver's license from 2 years ago.

First Whooping Cough, now this. :(
Be more careful about where you are sticking your nose.
You should be. It's the slow, but inexorable, carrying out of the death sentence that you received on the day you were conceived.

Hmmm...amazingly, I'm at a bit of a loss. One white hair is nothing. A hair in the nose? Unfortunate but certainly dealable. I get your pain.

How do you delicately get rid of white ear hair from someone you love and respect without crossing any lines or hurting one's feelings?

I know, I know, apply some black hair dye while your sensitive mate is asleep ... careful not to wake him up though. I can see it now, he wakes up and goes to the mirror and voila ... nice black ear hair. Problem solved! I know, this is brilliant. And speaking of brilliant, you could substitute some exciting colors for the black dye to give him a cool rainbow ear effect.
(The not so delicate method would be to pull a Van Gogh)
(And, CC my apologies if you were being serious:wink:)

My girlfriend found one grey hair on me. I'm blond and have long hair (almost mane-like). I haven't seen it yet, but she assures it's there. When she asked me if she wanted me to remove it, I said no.

I look more interesting and distinguished now, even if I have never seen it.

    True story.

Yep, I agree, one errant white one protruding from nose = not so cool. But a bumper crop escaping the old snozzolla = exceptionally cool.

Yeah, you're right but this combo combined with the tragic vision loss after extraction ... means everything will be just fine (in his mind's eye).
