    Lefties out there:

My son is 10 and is a lefty. What are the some of the foundamentals of lefty serve that he should start developing in order to have a serve for lefty?

    Thanks,
    Douglas

He should learn to exploit the spin. Spin it out wide on the ad side (with a slice, topspin/slice or topspin serve) to a right-hander's BH. Also learn to serve up the middle with a flat or topspin serve. Learn to jam right-handed serve returners on the FH side by spinning into the body. Learning a vicious slice can be very effective. Also, don't ignore the topspin serve (esp a topspin kick serve) and the topspin/slice serve.

He should learn to make spin the focus of his game. Good lefty spin is something most people HATE to face, because they rarely get to practice against it. The serve he should be focusing on the most imo as a lefty is the slice serve. A good lefty slice can really give a righty fits because it curves out of their strike zone to the backhand corner and stays low, I win plenty of cheap points with good slice serves.

Make the focus of his entire game spin generation, learn to hit topspin and then work on making it very heavy once he has the fundamentals down, work on a good slice backhand as well, any shot with spin will be particularly helpful for a lefty to learn.

Thanks. I see spin is the direct to go. Which pro(s) will be a good player to inmitate the serve motion for spin?

    Thanks,

Even tho' a righty, Federer is an excellent model for spin serves.
