According to a Selena Roberts story at CNNSI, the tennis programs have been cancelled to save money at Indiana State, Southeastern Louisiana State, Southern, and Tennessee-Martin.

I guess the good news in the story is that tennis participation is growing rapidly in the USA.

This such BS, they have no problem in SELA's case of bringing football bak, but then cut Tennis (Men's)? It is just a crock. Also feel bad for UT-Martin as the coach wasvery nice and he required his players to excel academically, can you say that about Football or Basketball. Finally the example of Indiana State says it all, regarding he record of the men' tennis versus football.

There are also many new tennis programs.

Certainly you never want to see a school cut its tennis program. And I agree with the author that tennis programs with a high percentage of international players are certainly more susceptible to the chopping block when times are tough.

But the situation is not all dire. At TennisRecruiting.net, we seem to create more team pages than we delete each year. I would guess that since our launch in 2005, we add 10-20 brand new programs every year (across all levels), and every year there are also some programs that elevate their status (e.g., from NCAA D3 to D2 - or from D2 to D1).

My point is that the future of college tennis is not necessarily gloom and doom.

Here is a list of new programs from the ITA...

I just googled and came across this list from the ITA:

    http://www.itatennis.com/Assets/ListofAddedPrograms.pdf

And again, this list does not show schools that have advanced their status (i.e., a move from NAIA to NCAA Division I).

Well, that sucks. My old team played against both of those teams regularly. Not a single American was on either of those teams when I played against them. Hopefully then can get those teams back.
