I really like the commentary of Stolle: he provides an intelligent analysis without getting really technical.

On the other hand, he does not seem to engage in useless, irrelevant chatter.

Which reminds me, how many women were involved in play by ply in men's matches before Carillo?

    I really miss this team.

I get the impression that he didn't part with ESPN under the best terms and he intimated that he wished Dreysdale had his back.

Maybe Cliff was worried about losing his job for fear of being obsolete.

I think he's over compensating as being a "stroke analyst" of sorts these days.

Now we have to endure the crap banter of Gimelstob, Gilbert, and PMac. Those guys keep trying to show how "in with the players" they are and only come off as dooshy dude-ish.

The reason Fred Stolle is such a great TV commentator is that he used to cover tennis as a radio commentator.

hey you want to hear something unique. Once Cliff asked Fred to do the comementary of a few points as though the video feed was off. Stolle did the play by play like a radeo announcer at a jack Dempsey fight, in time with the rally with a timed patter, like an auctioneer! when the speed of the shot was slow, he got more information in( spin/ angle etc, when the pace of the rally picked up, it was more edited. Funniest thing I've heard! It was amazing. Now that is a dying art I doubt Courier or Patrick MacEnroe could do.

I remember being in England once in early July, and driving listening to Wimbledon on the car radio.

The BBC guys doing the matches were so good at describing the play stroke-by-stroke, you could easily picture every single point in your head.

It was amazing. And highly effective, and very entertaining.
