That's been the case all tournament. I'm not sure what's going on exactly but there have been empty seats all week.

People saving up for Russia?

But how are they saving when they’ve already bought the tickets?

It’s proably all these corporate seats that are empty. They need to stop that stuff and that goes for all the other tournaments too.

Fresh blood in the final, this will be second time in the last three slams that we got a first time slam finalist.

Imagine...you enter your first slam final and face the toughest challenge in tennis...Nadal in a RG final. Dreams can turn to nightmares. o_O:eek:

Nadal vs Delpo is still not over.

It might be Thiem vs Delpo in the final. You never know.

It's good to see him in the final for sure! I think the day will have come when be actually wins one.

You must be happy with the prospect of having two favourites in the final - you can enjoy the easily no matter what!

Thank you!
Epic days for me. Have hoped this for Thiem 3 years. Actually always felt he would do big.
And I really hope Nadal wins today so Thiem has the chance to take down Nadal. That would be winning RG properly!

Even though a couple of his fans have been really annoying this tournament, I am very happy to see Thiem make his 1st Slam final. I have always believed in this kid and always felt he has what it takes to win Slams even though a lot of people on here have said a lot of negative things stuff about his potential. I hope he gives Rafa all he can handle. I do think one day he will hold this trophy but I don't know if it will be this year.

I see Cecchinato hit his 1-handed backhand and he can only hit it crosscourt.......... Thiem should take advantage of that. Novak didn't, he needs on court coaching.
LOL. I think you did nail this.
RR sure. I have followed the Cecc vs. Djoko thread and read it all. Posters talking on about how Djoco is out of form, is not anymore the Djoko of 3 years ago, etc etc.

The fact is that Djoko put up an amazing fight.

Why was he so pissed? Because he knows he played well, he knows he did it right. He is pissed because, him Djoko, playing as Djoko, couldn't come up to a solution to beat Marco! His brain is hot and angry because he cannot understand how he has lost a match even if displaying an excelent quality of tennis. He did what he should have done and the anger comes exactly from here. If he had been playing bad, he wouldn't be so pissed.

So your qestion(Hit through Ceccs defences where Djokovic couldn't?) bring up another one. What could Djoko have done more than what he did to win?

My answer is nothing. He played well. Cecc played better. And Djoko played well the important points (he missed a FH at 9-8 true, his only real mistake), but Cecc played better.
That is why Djoko is absolutely angry. He played a great match, and even so, he lost.
And now we know the rest of the story

The tournament should seat people in the empty areas once the match has started.

The first two sets were great tennis to watch. I loved all the drop shots Marco was pulling off, he’s got serious touch.

Yes, he was playing with too much margin and when it got tight he didn't go for his shots. He was going cross court pretty much all the time and was afraid of changing the direction of his shots and put more pressure
Like BH DHL but that hasn't been working for him so when it got tight he was too afraid. Still though he was in many positions of taking that 4th set, at 4-1 up he had 3 BP opportunities, crazy momentum to go with in that 5th set. At 5-3, he was 30-0 up, but lost 4 points in a row to get broken back. Then in the TB multiple set points with the most notable one when he framed his shot wich should have been an easy put away.

I'd say it was a combination of low confidence in tight moments but also bad luck. However that point where he framed his shot was just pure bad luck.
I would have to agree with all you've put. His BH DTL was terrible during the match, and always seems to be the shot he loses when tight; just shows how much Nole was in the zone during 2011. But, (dare I say) the elbow problems might just be behind him now, and his serve is looking a lot better than earlier this year. (AO at least) It seemed to be just a case of getting tight and a bit of bad luck as you say, but he seems to have the will-to-win back, just not quite at iron/steel levels. (yet) A few more tough matches like that, and he might well turn it around in time for the USO, or his favourite in 2019.

Thiem isn't Djokovic. Djokovic is somewhat easy to slow down cause he doesn't punish you for slicing and he doesn't approach the net if he has you on the run. On clay you're not getting away with slicing vs Dominic Thiem cause he has so much more weight on his shots. Thiem's greatest weakness on clay is returning big serves, and Cecc doesn't serve big at all. Thiem's gonna hit that big kicker + forehand all day long and I don't think there's much Cecc can do. Ceccs only advantage is that he needs less time on his backhand, but he doesn't hit big enough to force Thiem on the back foot I don't think.

Well good call @Red Rick spotted on. The more power of Domi made Cecc pay the toll. Even if there has been a quite close 2nd set TB, the impression was that Thiem was always on control, and that Marco really was struggling to face the more powerfull and more topspinned shots. Spot on also for Thiem's serve. Cecchinato didn't really do much on ROS, Thiem was able to control almost always his serve games.

Thiem is in the final!!!!!!!

@Meles
Its been a long road w lots of ups and down. The day has finally come!!
Not a lot of downs really except on fraudulently speedy courts.;) Thiem on clay has been money in the bank except for this year where his fractured ankle layoff right before clay season had him starting off on clay with a bit of rust on his game.
