    Hello
I am interested in selling my rackets I bought from someone here on TW, but I never sold anything online in my life. I have read the guidelines and have a few questions.

After someone has confirmed they wanted to buy it, what do I do from their with paypal and all? And concerning about shipping, can I just go to any UPS store and ask for boxes that will fit tennis rackets, and it's free? And since this is my first online trading/selling and the other people has some feedback how do I get him/her to trust me?

Could I post a new item in the classifieds? It is an old racket from awhile back and wouldn't interfere with TW sales.

I'm sorry, but regardless of the age of a racquet, if it's never been used, it cannot be sold in the Classified forums.

This is mostly covered in the Sticky... (did you read it?)

    A) Get a paypal account if you haven't already. Jump through the hoops and link it to your bank account, or whatever you feel comfortable with.
    B) Go to USPS, it's cheaper (generally) and the boxes are free. (covered in sticky).
    C) Sometimes new traders have to ship first to established traders when they start out. Work that part out with the party you're trading with.

I was wondering how do I get some boxes to ship my racquets in? I read a thread where someone said that usps does not give free boxes any more?

If three of your posts have been deleted, most likely there is something that doesn't follow policy. Please email your ad(s) to discussadmin@tennis-warehouse.com so we can let you know what the issue(s) is/are.

Trading racquets for 1st timers w/o referrences

What (if any) is the suggested safest way for two "newbies", without any prior referrences, to go about trading or selling? How do you decide who ships first, or, should you both agree to ship at the same time, and hope the other party is honest? Any suggestions or feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

You can try to get a third party involved. Try to find another TT member in your area with plenty of positive references to ship to, so he can okay that everything works out. Sort of as a go-between or middle-man.

Another option is to "pay" for the racket. Both of you can decide on a monetary value for the trade, then pay each other for each other's racket. Its like two buys instead of a clean trade.

Both should ship the same day. Check out the other party as best you can and exchange contact info. Then google emails, cell numbers, etc to see if there are any red flags. And exchange clear pics of the rackets involved.

Another (better) option is to do a mutual buy. Both agree on a dollar value and both pay each other for the rackets. Money wise, it is a wash, i.e. you both send each other $75 or whatever the rackets are worth. However, you will both now have seller/buyer protection from Paypal so if one doesn't deliver as promised the other has recourse through PP.

    fearsome and Singnflip,
Thats for the suggestions - this helps.

Here's a great idea - Someone needs to start a "middleman" business. Each party could just safely send the racquet(s) or payments to the middle man. The middleman then distributes the "goods" to the parties invlolved. And he gets a cut, or a per transaction "fee".

Question: Any takers for the completely thankless task of being the TW trade middleman? (Dead silence to follow).

This would probably lead to posts biatching about the middleman's judgment. (Middleman Bob: Poor Judgment and Not To Be Trusted!)

There is no substitute for simply being cautious with whom you trade, trusting your instincts, exchanging good pics, etc.

The mutual PP buy seems like a better solution to me than over complicating the process by adding a middleman. If you are feeling that wary about trading with an unknown, then don't do the deal and find someone with refs.

Id have to agree. We'd probably have to have a section of reference for good middlemen and it might be hard to find one in far off areas like Romania or China or Uzbekistan.

Mutual buy seems the best option. Because you're both sending the same amount of money, things stay equal, and plus, PayPal would help hold both of you accountable. Just make sure the amount of money you agree on is high enough that he could just run off with your money without sending you the racket.

TW is there any way I can lower the price on my post?

No, since you are a new user, you can't edit posts.

Just click the red exclamation point button on the bottom right of your post and report it. Please place the new price you'd like in your comments, and we can revise for you.

Edit #2: Whoops, sorry about that, I meant to quote you, instead I accidentally clicked "Edit."

    Hi TW.
I rate my stick 9-9,5/10. I've used it couple times and racquet is in almost perfect condition. Is this possible to put it to "for sale/for trade" section ?

    Cheers

    Post not appearing

Hi, made 4 attempts to post a couple of Head YT Prestige Mids for sale over the past week and none have appeared. I have posted before and have never had a problem, are new rules in place by which I may not be abiding?

email your ads to discussadmin@tennis-warehouse.com so we can take a look at them.

    Your system is broken.

Why can't we sell new DISCONTINUED items. This is a stupid system, it takes forever for the threads to show up, and your stupid rules are well, stupid. Why do you have a "out of 10" rating if nothing can be posted as a "10".

There are plenty of other users that would disagree with you as they've gotten along just fine by the guidelines we enforce. No hard feelings though. It is a free service that we provide and respect the fact you don't like it. We have no problems if you choose to use other avenues to sell your personal used equipment.

    Regards,

Again, and for the last time, we respect that you don't like our "guidelines" and will remind you that there are other avenues that may better suit your needs.

If you care to discuss anymore of your gripes, you may do so by emailing discussadmin@tennis-warehouse.com as continuing to bash our policies on our message board may result in being banned (yes, another one of our policies).

Spencer, I commend you for your professional settling of this matter. This individual is criticizing a system that is provided completely free of charge and has no right to question any of its guidelines. Please realize there are many more people appreciative of such a great avenue to sell our used equipment than negative people like this.

I for one, think this person has crossed the line and should be banned.

    Grommet sets

    TW,

Are we allowed to try to sell grommets in the FS section if the grommets sets are ones that TW does not carry, and if the set is for a racquet that is discontinued (meaning that TW does not carry the racquet either)?

In other words, these grommet sets are for a racquet TW doesn't sell and TW doesn't sell the grommets either. Are we allowed to post something like that for sale?

Agreed - Solid efforts here Spencer - this is after all a "thankless" profession being an admin on the boards.

for what its worth, occasionally my posts don't show up for whatever reason but I usually repost and everything is fine.

what would those of us who "speed demo" do without the for sale section.

i sold my gear. your faq instructs me to edit my post to show that gear is sold. in the posting rules box it states that i may NOT edit my posts. this is a contradiction.

how can i edit my post as instructed?

Typically your post will pass in 1 business day (less, if the admins are on top of their game). If it's not posted, assume it has violated a rule (of which you have to follow ALL, not just as many as you can ;)). If you need assistance figuring out why your post didn't pass, feel free to e-mail me a copy, it's generally a very quick answer.

You don't have editing privileges because you are a new user (< 50 posts). Note the FAQ in the TW Q&C section, in the case that you are planning to frequent other areas of the board (it'll answer lots of other misc questions). For now, you can report your own post and ask for a deletion or edit (also located in the FAQ in TW Q&C if you don't know how).

It's been forever since I've posted in FS/FT so I just sent something off realizing I could've cleared a few things up. Should I resend a better ad, or will you guys just approve it and let me edit it once it goes through?

USPS priority is one of the most popular options, take two of the boxes shaped like the flat medium flat rate boxes and tape them together. Pad with racquet cover or loosely crumpled paper. The boxes (and cargo) are rigid enough to get by with pretty minimal padding. You just need to ensure that there's no cosmetic damage!

Go ahead and wait a business day and see if it gets posted. If not, resubmit at that time.

So, if I have more than 100 posts do I have editing privileges? It doesn't appear so.

Secondly, regarding the use of Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate shipping boxes, I had some problems today with the local PO. They either never seen two of these boxes put together to hold a racket, or they are right: apparently there's another Priority Mail box, similar or close in size, but which is not for "Flat Rate" shipping!

Checking the corresponding shipping rates for both, it shows that the Flat Rate boxes are $10.95 regardless of weight or distance, while the Priority Mail box would have been in my case only $6.20.

I'm not sure if this rate would be valid for two boxes put together, but at least after some back-and-forth with the PO master, the clerk agreed to charge me only for one PM Flat rate with some reservations about additional charges at destination in case the receiving PO would determine so.

Editing privileges in the FS/T should be available, I believe not in the rest of the forum, though.

There is a similar sized non-flat rate box, it's hard to find in store, but you can order them online free of charge at usps.com

Either way, the regular shipment wouldn' thave been much more expensive than the flat rate box (~10.95), so if there is additional charges, it will be extremely minimal.

you could have covered/hidden the flat rate print on the box with tape and they would have just charged you the Priority Mail rate. i've made this mistake before and that's what i did.

Your polices are very well documented

Although some users (like Say Chi Sin Lo) dislike your policies, I find them to be documented well and seem to have everyone's interest in mind. It totally makes sense that you are providing, free of charge, a place for others to sell their used items and those items which would compete with your sales are not allowed. Makes perfect sense to me. A big thumbs up to TW.
