Anyone familiar with Gambill's Tennis Acedemy on the Big Island of Hawaii? My friends and I will be out that way (next door to it, actually) in the next few weeks and were considering checking them out.

The Gambill's are a great family, Jan-Michael I have met before and he was classy in dealing with my son, who was awed by having met a professional tennis player.

The word on the street is you would enjoy your experience there!!!!

Do you have the website for the camp?????

I don't think anyone will be around for the last two weeks of December, but someone should be at Holua Resort to give you some info.

update: Jan-Mike says he'll be back in Kona around the 28th, so he might be around.

No, I don't have the website, what is it? I EMailed them but haven't gotten a reply, yet. They aren't just a kid-camp, right? Which resort are they located in?

Which email address did you write to?

It's located at Holua Resort (as I said in my previous post). The website is www.gambilltennisacademy.com. Don't be surprised if you hear from someone soon ;)

You're right, he did write back. And as you mentioned he'll be back on the 28th (our first day there).

BTW I was unaware that he had won 5 doubles titles.

You can thank me later ;) (please forgive him his horrible punctuation, he's like e e cummings sometimes). Yep, 5 doubles and 3 singles at the Tour level.

Make sure you wear sunscreen! Have a great time, take pictures. :)

He's been injured for over a year (shoulder). He played team tennis last summer, then played two tournaments in some amount of pain and hasn't played since August. He is hoping to play again in 2007, but he is not ready right now (he can't serve yet). When he's definitely ready to play again, we'll put it on his myspace page.

I played Gambill in singles in '91. His game was the same as it is now:
    Great 1st serve
100% first serve % on no-ad deuce points
    So-so 2nd serve
    Great return game
    Solid flattish groundies
    Terrible at net.

I lost the match 6-3,6-2. Four of the 5 games I won were on his serve. I served and volleyed but didn't do too well. Most of the points I won were either when I attacked his weak 2nd serve, or drew him to the net since he had awful hands.

A lot of people lost to JMG when he was 13/14. Except Justin... ;)

Yeah, I love this picture. I just got it from Justin last week and I nearly fell over when I saw it. He looks the same, JMG looks a little bit different, but the smile is the same.
