THAT scene, incredible. I've not read the books so wasn't expecting it, but it's hard to imagine it could of been put onto screen any better.

I don't think I'ver ever been as shocked from watching a TV episode EVER. As someone who has NOT read the books, I'm still in shock. That was so hardcore I hope I don't have nightmares. I'm in a desperate search to find something happy/fun/comedy to watch before bed.

Talk about getting served...the Starks....and I thought Theon was getting served.

Starks and the Tullys got screwed. Walder Frey and Roose Bolton got rewarded for their treachery.

I hope Blackfish Tully and Jon Snow get revenge.

The one thing which I don't think the series put sufficient emphasis on with Ep9 is how important / symbolic it is to offer hospitality and accept the food/hospitality etc. In the books almost a relgious thing. Puts what happened next in the episode much more into context.

Awesome episode, been waiting for the scene for 14 months, and it lived up to my expectation, Michelle Fairley knocked it out of the stratosphere.

I do agree that 'guests right' should have been emphasied more but i'd be nitpicking.

That, along with the 'Dracarys' scene in Ep 4 were two of my top moments from A Storm Of Swords, and they lived up and then some.

Non book readers - there is still PLENTY of awesomeness from book 3 (and 4/5) which will be in season 4. I'll never reveal spoilers of what's to come but I hope you keep watching, its the best show by far on TV.

Such a rough day for House Stark.

By my calculations, we've only seen about 50% of the awesomeness of Book 3. Plenty to come.

As a non-book reader, it will be interesting to see what happens to Brienne now. Jamie too, I really like his character.

Also last episode the fire lady placed a curse on three characters. One of them was Robb, right?

Wise choice. If you have not read the books no need to spoil it for yourself at his stage.

One thing about GoT I love is that there's grey areas when it comes to the decisions made by these characters. With a few exceptions, there's no truly good or evil character. Morality, honor, loyalty, love, survival get put to the test to where they often pursue one aspect, but have to forsake others in the process.

As much as I hate Walder Frey, I can understand his thinking. From a realist point of view, Walder did what was best for his house's survival. He knows how to play the game, unlike any of the Starks.

Not sure I agree with you there. Eddard Stark, Rob Stark, Jon Snow, Ayra Stark, Sansa Stark, Brienne to name just a few - they're all 'good' characters. Even Jamie Lannister, I'm not exactly what he's done wrong (well, apart from his relationship with his sister!). Even Tyrion is pretty 'straight up' despite his sort of Playboy lifestyle. And what about Hot Pie! ;-) Joffrey and Ramsay Bolton have got to be the evilist. Obviously, there' are alot of characters in between as well, which makes it all the more interesting.

I'm not sure that he does......

For some reason I found the scene with The Hound and the solider really funny.

    Soldier: Where are you going?
Hound: Got salt pork for the feast.
    Soldier: The feast is over.
Hound: Doesn't sound like its over.
Soldier: If I tell you its over, its over
Soldier: Turn this cart around and get the hell out of here
Hound: I got pig's feet too....

(Pig's feet apparently being the Hound's favorite dish)

Jaime Lannister is not what I would call a "good guy." He pushed Bran Stark out of a window (hence crippling him).

The amount of characters that just died was worse than what you'd expect in a sopranos season. I'm sure there's a lot of disappointed fans now.

If we keep going at this rate we won't have any characters to film.

Agreed. Martin seems to be very nihilistic.

You read should use a SPOILERS tag by the way....

Why should he need spoiler tags? We are taking about the episodes not the books. If you haven’t seen them yet it would not be wise to open any thread anywhere about the show.

I have just watched the last episode for the third time and some things struck me.

Like Soyizgood said the Starks suck at this game.

The worst deaths for me were the direwolf Grey Wind and Talisa's. I thought that Arya might actually save Grey Wind for a second or two. At that moment you could tell that she knew Robb was dead too.

There was salt and bread being passing around which is a symbol of hospitality. Once you eat it, you're supposed to be safe from your host.

Walder Frey needs to die in a big way and his head on a pike for after dinner desert.

Little Rickon was suburb in his first speaking part. And speaking of acting the actress who plays Cat should win an Emmy for her work last night.

What did you all think about the silent credits afterwords? I think it captured the stunned silence of all of us.

    And lastly.

^^^^The silent credits were very effective, just like they were in one of the final episodes of Spartacus just a few weeks back. Both times I watched with my dad and both times we were just in a state of shock.

I thought the belly stab on Talisa was a little over the top. I'm sure it was supposed to make everyone feel that way...but I didn't think it was needed.

    exactly........

funny how people will browse a thread called "Game of Thrones" and then complain about spoilers.

if I just dvr'd a football game I wanted to watch later, I wouldn't turn on Sportscenter and then complain about them announcing the score.

Walder Frey is a lot more calculating than any of the Starks. He played his cards the way Tywin played his against the Mad King. Lady Stark was right that Frey is a very dangerous man. Robb's advisors warned him about Walder's reputation... and he still didn't listen.

Frey initially supported the Starks, but it was contingent on Robb marrying one of his daughters. The follies of Robb Stark were a long laundry list. If you were Frey, would you support a king that:

    • Broke his oath to you
    • Gave up a bargaining chip in Theon which resulted in losing his own castle
    • Had a mom that gave up a bargaining chip in Jaime Lannister
    • Could not manage his priorities with his army, thus losing support of the Karstarks
    • *Not in the show* Allowed Roose Bolton to waste thousands of his solders (yet none of Roose's own men) attacking a Tyrell position? Didn't Robb's army also lose a battle to the Greyjoys?
    • Begged for your support when he is clearly losing

Why would Frey ally himself with Robb to fight the Lannisters, Tyrells, and possibly the Greyjoys? Not much to gain (Harrenhal), but everything to lose. Robb Stark didn't see the big picture and had no idea how to play the game. Frey doesn't gave a frick about any of the houses.

Roose had motives to betray the Starks. Historically the Boltons rivaled the Starks for supremacy in the North. They were defeated, but the Boltons are thirsty for power once more. He realized Robb was weak, so he conspired with Frey and Lannister. You can bet he would not have dared done this against Ned.

In the TV show he's with Bran/Hodor/Meera/Jojen/Osha but he doesn't get much air time.

In the books Rickon has gone off separately with Osha to *somewhere*. This was on the advice of Maester Luwin before he died. He thought Bran and Rickon would both be safer if they split into two groups.

It may not be the same as the books, but they split up in the last episode.

Ep 10 wasn't exactly a thriller, but I'm not sure I expected it to be either. I guess it was nice to end on a happy note. Now our watch begins...again.

Very low key. Some of the storylines really seem to be fizzling out. I thought Season 2 was much stronger in terms of character development, plot, excitement etc.

Really not sure where RR Martin goes after this. He seemed to have killed off so many main characters. Goose and the Golden Egg and all that.....

Tough call, personally I would read all the books, but I am somewhat of a book nerd. My brother started reading at book two, after the first season aired and he said he was fine with that. The books are loooonnnng, so be prepared for that. The next book, Book Four:A Feast for Crows, leaves out a few characters. You get a richer sense of the story and characters by reading, the TV series for me is just the gravy.
