    just think about it

    both very talented

when Fed was Gasquet's age he was mentally brittle as well although obviously very talented although I think Fed used to get pissed off a bit more

really the major differences are Fed had( and still does) a killer forehand
and Gasquet has a killer backhand and Federer's serve is obviously better
although I think Gasquet's has improved compared to 2-3 years ago

movement-wise both are pretty quick movers....Fed probably has better anticipation and reflexes

and Both seem to be pretty handy at the net with decent overheads

    thoughts anyone?

I honestly don’t see the similarity, plus Gasquet has a really shaky forehand, that I think would prevent dominating the game.

Not really. Federer has killer net game and killer transition shots. and fed also has mental toughness that is matched by no other. he never pulls out of tournament with little blister, in fact he played with extremely painful foot injury in masters 2 years ago. Gasquet would have checked himself into the hospital and stayed there for a week.

Gasquet is nothing compared to Federer, and I doubt he'll ever make it to the top. And I just can't stand how the kid is always barking at the ball kids.

I think Gasquet has much more classic loopy swing and less grip changes (and thus potentially more natural at the net --> but we don not know about it in current baseline oriented game.)

But I think the serve makes big difference in these two players' potential. Federer's serve is one of the best one I've ever seen in last 20 years.
Gasquet should improve his serve(and his forehand of course) if he ever wants to be anywhere close to the level of Federer.

I think Gasquet is just as talented as Federer... if not more. But without instinct of a killer it's hard to achieve much in this competitive world :(

Gasquet is absolutely nothing compared to Federer. He does not have Federer's match winning forehand, match winning serve, or ability to perform under pressure and focus match in and match out. He does not return nearly as skillfully or play at the net as well either. He does not understand percentage tennis like Federer, and he does not understand the meaning of different points and how to play those various points like Federer. There is nothing they really compare on except the backhand they might be close. Other then that Federer swamps Gasquet.

I think that the "Gasquet as talented as Federer" topic is overhyped.

*yes, I know, amazing discovery, hold your applause guys*

I am glad there are ridiculously overhyped players like Safin, Gasquet, Blake, Berdych, Baghdatis, Monfils, even Nalbandian to a lesser degree. It is that much more fun to be able to make fun of those who are overhyping them.

Isn't one of gasquets nicknames "baby federer"? He is somewhat like him...

i say that gasquet is of course a young gun who has alot of potential to become an enormously great player. he of course has the weaponry and skills. but idk if he is goin to be a "roger federer" like player in the next years. he just doesnt have that drive or at least he doesnt look like he does to become great. but who kno he has potential of course.

on the overhyped players i think safin is the best or one of the best players to hit the ball cleanly. safin is a player who is caught up in all the glamour of being a famous tennis player that he doesnt focus on tennis. if he focuses and gets back into that mindset, he can beat anyone out there...

Federer's game is a lot more complex than Gasquet. Apart from playing one-handed backhand, I don't see any similarities between the two at all.

gasquet is less of an athlete than federer, but he posses the same shotmaking prowess that federer does to some degree.

I think Brad Gilbert calls it the poor man's Federer!

Just like Roddick's the poor man's Becker.

Nalbandian is the poor man's Agassi.

Just like Smirnoff in the plastic is poor man's Grey Goose.

And Nadal is the new and improved Muster. WIthout the screwed up knee.

People compare him to federer because can hit spectacular shots with his BACKHAND. Thats it. I never see him do anything special with his other shots. His forehand breaks down when hes tight and his serve is average. Plus he doesn't have the genius that federer has.

for now he's proven himself only to have a very good backhand. other than that he doesn't hit hard enough and like everyone says his other shots don't back up his one hander.

Dont compare that wannabee to Federer. He isnt anywhere near as good in any area except the backhand. I am not even sure his backhand is better, I think it is close, the rest of his game is light years worse then Federer.
