A wise man once said to me never hit a smash with a turtlehead - especially a mexican turtlehead. They're too runny.

You know we're old, guys: we have debased this thread to discussing ruptured toenails and farting. . . . LOL.

Moz, awesome thread, and love your blog.

Question>> what is your world ranking in beer drinking??? Don't be modest.

BTW, good luck this coming year. I think you are way too hard on yourself. You have a great game.

Clearly he is a hidden talent on the scene. However, I think he should use a bigger mug. He'll "shank" less.

BTW, I never heard from Tennis warehouse. You may want to contact them. I don't want you to lose out on any money you may have sent them.

Just found this post. Funny, I was just at Ike Park last weekend and I noticed that alcohol is forbidden and thought of the upcoming pinic in March/April? launching the outdoor season and whether we should have booze because if we get caught it could get ugly with that much alcohol at the beginning of the season when I think they are much stricter than at the end in September.

We may have to be dry at Ike and go to Hooter's across the street afterwards.

I was thinking of doing a morning thing, with coffee tea and bagels instead.

Then after we tire each other out, we could roll on over to hooters and put down some wings and suds.

Hmmm. . . good question. I'll have to think on that. As long as it has nothing to do with toenails, farts, or turtleheads, I'm good with it.

Oh, forgot to tell you guys. I have some good news: on Saturday, I am playing a guy who was ranked 900 ATP. . . only 3 years ago. I will be sitting on pillows for days after the asskicking I am to endure during this match.

Excellent news. Is it in a tournament? Good luck.

Would be great if you could get someone to chart or take video of the match. At the very least we require a full report - but you knew that didn't you!

I've got some video to put up but I am having all sorts of technical difficulties which are driving me up the wall.

No, it's a 4.5 league match. Most of the guys in this league are 5.0 or better. No video of this match, as I don't want anyone watching me getting raped.

Post your video. Love to see that.

Not to be gross, but how's your toenail? Any better?

Toenail actually looks as though it will hang on but it's not looking as though it will get better on it's own. Thanks for asking.

I may have found a solution to the video problem so I'll try and post some this afternoon before I leave for the doubles this evening.

Okay chaps. I'll be able to post some vids in a few hours.

Meanwhile, you can enjoy yourselves checking out my toe here:

It looks more colourful in real life - I was a bit disappointed with it's lack of character in this photo!

Can't you just pull the nail off. It'll hurt and be black for a week. It will regrow anew. Better than going all gangrene losing your entire foot!

I would do but it's too firmly planted at the moment. I was expecting it to loosen a bit more than it has. It might be the bit of chicken that I left under there a few months ago. j/k

    Ok Nick - will do.

Managed to get some video to work. Here is me hitting in the warm-up of the match at Nationals where I lost. Just hitting an easy pace.

Sorry about the camera angle but the venue isn't good for viewing and I was on the far court. It gives you a nice view of the attractive colour scheme though!

    CAM,
How does guy ranked 900 3 years ago play 4.5?? I would be very upset with that, even though be fun to play. Ever seen the Experience Player Guideline from USTA? Check it out.

I highly second the recommendation for Central Market. It's a grocery store but has a cafe inside with suprisingly great food. There's a lot of tournament friendly choices on the menu (pastas etc) and since its in a market you can also step over and easily buy anything else you need.

CAM is not talking about a 4.5 USTA league, this is an open league here in Austin that anyone can play in.

It's not USTA. It's a local tennis league, and it's just for fun. No, it won't be fun getting my ass handed to me on a platter, but it's all for fun. He's only 26, and by the looks of things he ended up here because his wife is from here. For reference, his brother was the #1 ranked British junior and plays for UT (here in Austin). My game is nowhere near where I want it to be, but that's life. I'll take this in stride, and have fun reporting it to you guys. 8)

Oh, and you guys can thank atatu, as it's his team I'm filling in for. He's the reason I'm getting taken to the back alley. Thanks again, atatu.

I'm only kidding. For those of you who don't know him, atatu is a hell of a nice guy.

Lucky. In our informal 4.5 tennis league, I don't think we actually have anyone at or above 4.5. Arrrg!
