I went last year and will be going again this year. The tournament is great. You can usually sit really close and all the top players are there. The practice courts are cool too, as you can see almost everyone practicing.

The official tournament hotel is the Mariott, so swing by there in the evenings if you want to see the players hanging out at the bar area.

Congratulations on heading to Cincy! I went last year for the first time and was amazed. You can generally sit very close to the court and most of the players are surprisingly accessible. Last year I got to meet Santoro, Safin, Youzhny, Bjorkman, and I spoke with Tim Henman at the Marriott after his loss to Murray in the 1st round.

The first and second days of the tournament are (in my opinion) the best days to go. When I went I got to see all the matches I wanted to see and I got to watch Federer practice up-close. I also got to watch Safin on a practice court where he broke a racquet and then started gunning balls at Davydanko and his hitting partner that were 3 courts away. . .quite a sight!

    I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Sweet!! Wow you really met a lot of guys... I'm not staying at the Marriott, but it's not far from where I will be staying. Where did you meet all the players? Just around at signings or did you see them practicing or something?

I think my seats are in one of the first few rows on the terrace, up in the corner out of the sun.

    Craig,
I met most of the players by just walking around near the practice courts. I actually spent more time on the outer courts than I did the show courts! Many of the players don't have a special entourage, and unless it's Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, James Blake, or Andy Roddick, the general public will recognize them as nothing more than a tennis player that isn't famous enough to know. Santoro and Bjorkman were both quite flattered that I knew who they were and went and spoke with them.

Have a great time and change courts as often as you can. It's also quite useful to check the practice schedule that the court officials post every morning.

Happy for you. i am going to RCA for first 4 days as well. I am trying to book the hotel right now. Atp changed the schedule on me, last year RCA was before LA country wide open. This year LA is first, what is up with that ? Do you try to pick up women at these tennis tournaments ? If so, do you have tips or lines ??;)

The best time to go for memorbilia is during qualifying when all the pros ar practicing. One of my neighbors is a billionare and used to invite Pete Sampras and others to his house. Maybe he'll invite Federer.

I'm going there too, heading up there with my dad for the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Chances are I'm going to be staying at the Marriott too, btw which Marriott were you speaking off, the Northeast (Mason) or North (West Chester)?

This is the first tennis tournament I've gone too so I'm pretty excited.

Also for anyone who knows how do the Sessions work? Like there are two sessions for the quarter finals so do you have to choose which matches you want to choose?

    Thanks for any comments.

When will Federer pull out this year? I wish somebody would lie to him and tell him Cincy was Montreal.

A smart, progressive European boy like Federer probably requires alot more incentive to return consistently to the god-fearing, war-loving Neanderthal belt. The Enlightenment shot through his country in the Seventeenth Century: he has no need to travel back in time. All kidding aside, I must say that the Cincy tournament is my favorite masters series event. It is done very well and I'm hoping to attend for the 5th time.

I'll be there too! Don't know what days yet, but probably around the 2nd and 3rd round. Maybe a day earlier than whenever Fed lost his match...whatever day that was.

Unless we get alot of rain, two quarterfinals will be played during the day session and two will be played at the night session (7:00). You will need a ticket for each session. Typically we use both Center Court and Grandstand Court for the quarters.

This is my 21st year keeping score at the Cincy tournament.

Fantastic tournament! I just got my tix for the Wednesday morning session, which to me is the best breakdown for the week. Its the 1st day that everybody left plays, and by that point all the matchups are pretty decent. And everybody definitely practices. The key if you wanna see 'em close is to get there when they open the gates at around 9, everybody is trying to get their hitting in early, cuz it straight gets hot and humid as all hell there. They will also practice on the seated courts that early as well, so you can sit close. Have fun everyone!!

It will be very hot there in Cincy. It's even hot at night. I use to live there. I even volunteered (via my tennis club) and took tickets one year. Got to see free tennis.

I didn't find it to be all that hot last year. Then again, I can't tell the difference in a house from 65-75 degrees but my whole family complains about the difference between 72 and 74.

Dunno what it is, but temperature doesn't really bother me unless it's in the extremes (eg 10 below or 130.)

Maybe wear a hat or something and obviously sunblock but the heat really isn't too bad. I thought the nights were PERFECT weather.

100 degrees F in Cincy today and it looks that way tomorrow too. Looks like 90s through the middle of next week.

I'm not sure what's better.....heat or thunderstorms. It's just that time of year here.

Anyone that's coming or lives in Cincy want to drop me an email and maybe we can schedule some hitting?

All of the boxes have been held for years by companies and people. The only way to get one is if someone gives one up and you yourself have been getting tickets for years and are wanting to move into one. My good friend has great seats about 5 rows up in the SE corner behind the boxes. He's had tickets for years and would love to get into one.

    Buying Tickets

I finally made up my mind to go to Cincinnati Masters with my son (11 yrs - A Roger fan). We will be there on Friday & Saturday for the quarters and semis. The main reason is to see Roger Ferderer's matches. I am wondering what the best way to purchase tickets is?
    - Buy in advance through Cincytennis (they only sell the $32 seats that are far behind)
    - Ticket Master is selling $54 seats also ( I could get in Section 209)
OR is it OK to wait until the day of the match to get better seats so I can be sure of a time when Roger's match is scheduled?

This is my first time visit to any Masters event and I do not know the best way to get very good seating?

Also, for those who wondering about getting BOX tickets, I see that there is an auction going on at
    http://www.ticketmaster.com/promo/xb78ls

    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

Roger probably will not play his first match until Wednesday, he has a first round bye. Remember that this tourney has both a day session and a night session. You will need separate tickets for each session.

Not always, but many times a player will choose to play only during the day (or night) session. As the number one seed, he can dictate when he wants to play. If he plays on Wednesday during the day session, there is a good chance that he will keep playing during the day.

Of course, he has to keep winning to get to the quarters & semis. I have worked this tourney for 21 years and have seen many top players that perform well in Canada the week before, tank their Cincy tournament in order to get a break before the US Open. Roger did this in 2004 losing to Hrbaty in the first round.

    Ragpicker,
Thank you very much for the information.

Based on your past experience, do the tickets get pre-sold OR can I get tickets on the day of match at the gate?

    Thanks a lot.

Day session tickets are usually available at the gate for most days. Once in a while the Saturday semi-final is sold out. I heard that this year's final is a complete sell out.

Evening tickets can sell out, especially Thursday through Saturday. Who is scheduled to play those nights is a big factor. Good luck, and I hope that Federer continues to win.
