If you're on the Scottsdale side of the valley then goober would know better about public courts and the tennis scene. I'm kinda in the Northwest Valley. The courts I call home are at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet complex. http://surpriseaz.com/tennis

In Tucson, head for Randolph Park, a very large park more or less in the center of town. Some good players sometimes hang out looking for games. Can also call resort pros (Loews Ventana, Westward Look) as they often have guests looking to find a match, and they don't always have one of their townie "regulars" available.
