Okay I am student, and can't really afford any resorts. I am already bought few tickets for Indian wells.

I need suggestion regarding staying for cheap. Something which is close to the venue. And even if it's not that close, atleast it has some local transportation whcih I can take to go to the venue with ease.

Please if possible, can someone give good details on this of which bus service or shuttle is run for cheap and some nice cheap hotels.

Go to www.palmsprings.com and click on economy hotels. There's a few that offer rooms starting at $49 a night during the week. I don't know anything about transportation deals or shuttles down there.

During that 2 weeks, cheap doesn't exist. Last I recall, the Motel 6 that was about 5 miles away was $85 / night.

My advice would be to book something like the motel 6. Then scan *bay frequently for a condo, etc. If something pops up you like, buy it and cancel your reservation.

I've noticed that you can find deals out there right before the event. Somebody has a change of plans and can't make it and needs to sell. Nobody else will be looking / nobody else is going to make very last minute reservations, so you can get great places for dirt cheap. If you can split it with someone else, it will probably be affordable. Probably nothing will be under $400-500.

Check the best western vacation inn in palm desert. It's where the officials stay and I think they have some decent rates. And there's a shuttle.

It's a 'name your price' option. Usually you have to wait until close to the date to get the great deals. So you could: a) find the best deal you can now, making sure there is a no cost cancellation policy; b) wait until a few weeks from the tournament and start bidding low. As others have said, PS/IW isn't really a budget destination. Tennis fans have money - and college spring breakers will put 5 or 6 people in a room to share the cost. Good luck.

Give us a hint: where do you live? Are you even in the US (might want to put your location in your profile)? Expedia and Orbitz do air also. Southwest Airlines is usually competitive.

I am staying in Maryland. I will be flying from IAD - WASHINGTON DULLES Airport or Reagan national airport or perhaps BWI baltimore.

Well, that mean you just need to search flights from IAD to the Palm Springs Airport - PSP. This airport is by far the closest one from IW. You can use a site like Expedia or Orbitz. Definitely the best way to find the cheaper flights.

Also, which ground transportation are you expect to use? Because it could be very expensive if you use cabs. I think it's around 60$ from PS Airport to the IW area with a cab. And public transportation is not very good in the PS/IW area

Or fly Southwest Airlines from Washington Dulles or BWI to Ontario (Los Angeles), rent a car cheaply, then drive about an hour East to Palm Springs.

+1. Ontario is the right airport to fly to. And OP, Priceline has the 'name your price' option for rental cars too. You should be able to pick up a subcompact cheap.

A condo at the Marriott Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert for March 11-18 (Sunday to Sunday) sold this past Sunday on Fbay for $265 for the week, or $38 / night.

I'd enjoy a re-"match" (if you call what I gave you a match). I'm in a bit better shape this year as compared to last year. Maybe I can win a game this time (but I somehow doubt it.....you're pretty damn good).

I'll be in the same place as last year, but this year I'll be there for 2 full weeks. From March 2-16 (Friday to Friday). I figured out that the tennis at that condo sucks (just hard to get time), so maybe you know of a better place.

Both of you guys seem to be a regular visitor to the Indian wells.

Can you suggest me if it's safe to take a sunline bus from indian wells in the night. I am staying around 25 mins away from the Tennis center and just want to make sure it's all safe for me when I go back to my hotel in the night.

I'm sure its safe, but I don't know how well it will work or how the buses run.

I'd suggest bringing a soft side cooler with a few cold drinks, snacks, and maybe even a sandwich if you want to save a little money.

    http://www.bnpparibasopen.com/About/FAQ.aspx

If you are getting General Admission tickets (that's what I always get and mainly stay on Stadium 2 court), you might want to consider bringing a cheap stadium chair to save your back some pain. It can get tiring sitting in bleacher seats all day.

However, if you want to see Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, play singles, you will probably have to go to the main stadium. They might play doubles on Court 2. A General Admission ticket will get you into the main stadium. Except for both weekends, there will be plenty of empty seats closer than your GA ticket assigned area. But if you are only going on either weekend (and want to see matches in the main stadium), you are probably best off getting an assigned seat.

I don't know when you are heading down, but GA tickets for the opening weekend (March 10, 11) often sell out in advance, but the other days won't. So buy GA tickets for these days at least a few weeks in advance or you might get shutout.

Okay, I planned to come all 2 weeks, but unfortunately I have my cricket tournament in florida so I will head to Florida from there on the monday of 2nd week.

So I plan to attend full first week. I already got GA tickets for first week. I did something similar during my stay at US Open. So I pretty much understood from there that it's useless to buy an aurthur ashe ticket or big stadium ticket since you are going to be seated too far, unless you pay something big to get a front courtside seat. But I am assuming here, atleast instead of paying big bucks, I might get to see some big player play live on court 2??

    Am I right?

Also thanks for all the info mate. You are a champion.

Also I am a USTA member, and didn't get any USTA discount on any of the tickets. How to get that discount?

If you've been to the US Open, you understand how it all works. Just grab your daily order of play sheet and chart your viewing plan for the day.

The USTA discount is only for Loge seats in the stadium (30% discount). So its worthless.

R, I plan to go again this year. I'll be there for men's qualies if Haas is playing. If he's not playing I'll probably go first Friday and first Monday and that's it (unless Ivo's coach gives me tickets again). Perhaps I'll see you around this year. :)

The women love Haas. A woman in my office and another staying in our condo while we are down there are both REALLY looking forward to seeing Haas play live.

I'll be easy to find. Send me a PM and I can give you my phone# if you want. You can text me when you are there.

Last time I saw Tommy at IW he looked at me and said 'where have you been?' It had been two years since the last time I had seen him. This past summer he passed by me as I was deep in conversation with someone else so all I could do was say 'hi Tommy' and I got the biggest smile back when he saw me. I have a soft spot for him, despite his moodiness with me over the years, and I want to say goodbye to him in person, at the risk of getting all silly and choked up.

We can exchange numbers closer to the tourney. If I do it now, I'll lose yours. :)

    E-bay. But that gets censored

Copy / paste the number I posted above into the E-bay search feature to see the condo.

.....uh, do you also know Ivanovic :)

.....and do you know if she's interested in old, fat, stalker types?

Don't know Ivanovic, sorry. No promises about Haas, all depends what kind of mood he's in at any given moment. :)

Maybe I'll sit next to his wife Sara and hit on her during his match and see if he notices or if it bothers him at all.

    Tommy's pretty easy going. So's Sara. I'm sure they won't mind :)
