Follow TW's Jason and Kana as they train and prepare themselves for the Santa Maria Open on Labor Day Weekend. This season, the focus will be on singles preparation at the men's 4.0 level (Jason) and women's Open level (Kana). Segments will be released twice a week. Please feel free to share with us some tips and drills you think they can benefit from. Hope you enjoy.

Have Kana and Jason played a serious, competitive singles match against one another?

If so, what was the score?

Kana and I haven't played a whole match against each other. The last time we played a set, I won 6-2. This was a few months ago.

Kana's been training pretty hard as of late, so if we were to play today, the score could easily be flip flopped. But I too have been training. ;-)

    Thanks for the reply :)

I was just curious how a 4.0 male matches up against an open level female.

Men and Women play such different games. For me, it really depends on the type of game you play. I've won 6-2 and lost 6-7 to two of our self-rated 5.0 players. When it comes to Jason, he definitely pwned me when we played that set. Even though he's self-rated 4.0, he's one of the hardest players I match up against. Even though he's less consistent than the average 5.0 player, his game is so much harder for me to handle. His advantage against me is that he hits with so much top and power I'm usually caught hitting his shots above my head in which he simply overpowers me with his forehand. Hence his nickname Jason "the Forehand" Huang!

I'm excited and nervous for this tourney! I'm sure I won't be matched up against any females that hit as hard as Jason, but their consistently will definitely be higher! I have the utmost confidence that Jason will do well in the tourney! Thanks for following us!

    Kana,

Do you find it more helpful to hit against males (4.0-5) or females (open) to prepare for a lady's tournament?

Where I'm at now, it'd probably be more favorable to practice against Open females.

My friend who used to be #1 at Cal Poly just started hitting again, so we'll be on the courts today. Other than her, I haven't had any practice against women so it's hard to gauge how well I'll compete.

Kana: OUCH! Some days, you're the dog; other days, you're the fire hydrant.

Jason: Getting breadsticked in the third after splitting two tiebreaks suggests to me that your opponent was fitter than you. Was that actually the case?

Please let us know when the next tournament is, guys.

Haha yeah I got rocked. lol It was a pretty bad day for tennis.. I even played with Noah Newman in Mixed Doubles and lost again. I haven't felt that upset with my tennis game in a really long time.

Practicing 3 hours a week compared to players practicing 3 hours a day... Open is out of my league right now. There's a tourney in Santa Cruz in October that me and my friend will go up and play we'll see how that goes.

Thanks for watching! Sorry my outcome wasn't that good. =(

The #1 seed Jay played against is ranked 41 in the 4.0s. We were all proud of him for sticking it out for 3 sets!

My energy level and legs actually felt pretty good going into the 3rd set. My back was the only thing that I felt tightening up at the start of the final set. I don't think I wore down physically as much as I wore down mentally. I was serving for it in the 2nd set at 5-4 and again at 6-5. Got broke both times. When I lost the tiebreaker, it was pretty deflating for my psyche. The guys I played ended up winning the tournament, in the final, he won 6-3, 6-3.

It was definitely a good experience. My opponent had much more match play experience than me and it showed in the final set. As frustrating as it was to lose, I'm glad I entered and got the necessary experience. This won't be my last tournament, that's for sure.

Looked like some good stuff, guys. Jason, keep it up. It can be hard coming back to tennis after a long layoff. Your strokes seemed solid, but seemed to lack consistency. Don't worry, though. That's to be expected after a long layoff, and the more you get back and play, the more consistent you'll be. Don't get frustrated. Looks solid.

I enjoyed watching the series. Thanks.

Too bad some of the comments in the comments section on that video are really juvenile.

"OMG WAS THAT THE FIRST SEED?!?!? Im like 16 an I would beat him so hard"

"ya lol, that guy was terrible.. old, fat, out of position the entire time.. just awful "

Yeah, we hope there will be many seasons. We already have an idea of what we'll showcase next, but it's hush-hush! =) If you guys have any ideas on what you would like to see let us know!

Hey, I was routing for you Kana. I appreciate you guys for sharing the videos and putting it on the line live for us to follow. I am definitely going to use some of those drills when I practice. Good luck at your next tournament and I'm looking forward to your next set of videos.
