What shoes is Chris wearing in Ep. 3?
Thank you for taking the time to do record this and to share it. Much appreciated. Good luck and have fun in the tournament
good work on episode 3. the practice sets are good to point out things to work on. hard to get good at unless one plays it regularly. i don't envy you.
Wow...I really like this format guys. Easy to relate to.
ok, some simple observations/suggestions:
1. Did not see a lot of poaching on service games. Shouldn't you guys be calling this along with the service placement?
2. The middle looked rather vulnerable on both sides. Probably will need to plug that up a little better...
3. Didn't see you guys exploit the middle much either. I'd be shooting for the middle a lot more and save the alleys for when you get a high short ball/sitter.
Can't wait to hear how you guys fare in the tournament. Good luck!
Ding ding ding!!!!
Jrod....you couldn't have said it better. All points you stated, we've discussed.
In episode 4, you will see some drills where we worked on EXACTLY those things!
Thanks for the feedback and well wishes!
alright, now it's time to stop playing on the TW Boards and get to work. Chop, chop.
Thanks guys! Hope you do well!!!
Chris, I just love your reaction at 3:37!!
You guys look good! You need to fine tune but in real world scenario I simply like how you look! Good luck!
I was wondering about chris shoes too! Very distracting in the video! Do people make yellow shoes anymore, I might have to order me some all yellow miadidas if TW does get more VI in!
You guys looked much sharper in drills, but then so do I look sharp at practice and not as clean in real matches! I don't want to see me on video lol
I have to get back to either playing tennis or looking for a job!
It still pains me to watch that miss. That BH volley would have put us a 4-4, instead we were broken to go down 3-5 and they held in the next game to win 6-3.
We played again yesterday and started moving better together and playing smarter doubles, then I hurt my knee and we had to quit. I'm resting today to be ready for tomorrow's training session.
I am wearing a proto of an Asics shoe for 2011. It does not look like this color will go into production.
Thank goodness...the blue version you wore in the 1st segment was MUCH better.
Thanks for the info and videos! I used those drills today, we also incorporated a ball machine into the routine. I have never worked on such things as down the line returns, and half volleys running into the net. and being ready for a return from a ball machine or player. I hope you guys do great!
If you have time! What shoe has great cushining for the heel and forefoot?
TW: I am wearing barricade v and the insole is now paper flat, worn, and doesn't seem to cushin me enough now!
I'm disappointed. I like that bright yellow.
I agree with my buddy JRS; can't you guys tell ASICS that you got about 10 million e-mails requesting - no, begging - that they release that yellow ASAP?
Nice video, by the way. Now if I can just figure out a way to get my teammates to practice...
Xis - I'll practice with you. Paper is due midnight tonight (I'm still working on it).. I should be a (mostly) free man after that.
Ah, but we married blokes are never truly free, are we?
What about Saturday or Sunday? Anything going on?
P.S. I really, really WANT those yellow ASICS.
Maybe Sunday am. We plans most of Sat.
Yeah, I forgot about the meet that might happen Saturday, although I'm not going.
Sunday sounds fine. Let me know where and when, and maybe we can work on some of the drills these guys highlight in these videos. I'll see if J wants to join us (but not D, if you get my drift).
Congrats on finishing school. Must be a grand feeling.
Actually, we have family plans this sat.
Not done just yet. I'm still on deadline..... feels like this is taking forever!!!!
Sorry we have lives outside of tennis.
Besides, I'm still waiting for another look at those beautiful yellow shoes.
Take care, good buddy.
^^^ Way better guys!!!! NOW you guys are starting to look like you really WANT IT! Stay aggressive, dominate the net, always keep moving and plug that middle.
In this latest video, just curious, the return and poach drill was great but what if the returner's partner is helping call the serve for their partner and they can't cut off the poach that quickly and/or that close to the net? What happens then?
Also, probably a little cavalier of me but I'd really like to go up against the dynamic duo of Chris and Spencer in some friendly doubles. I'll even drive down to SLO. How possible would it be for me to get a good hit with you guys?
Good stuff. Looks like you guys are picking up your games.
Chris and/or Spencer,
I thought Spencer had settled on the PS Ltd, but he seems to be using a different racquet in each of the clips ?
Spencer... is that a Fischer Black Granite No. One you're using in video 4?.. is TW sitting on a stash of them (crossing fingers)???
Thanks jrod. If we hadn't filmed that segment before your critique, one might think we outlined that episode straight from your post!
Just send us an email at email@example.com with enough notice, and we'd be happy to coordinate some time for a hit!
Not to fret, the Pure Storm Limited is still my #1. I do, however, have to hit with other sticks. It's a part of the gig here, so we can accurately describe their characteristics, as well as review them (if they make the review list).
Make sure you give those yellow ASICS top marks across the board.
now that you're looking a bit sharper...
Spence - when Chris is receiving the serve (or serving), suggest you stand in the center third (court half) when at the net. the alley is left open a bit much. also crouch down a bit lower so that Chris doesn't bean u (not that he would) with a service return (or serve).
also suggest vary the volley placement. if you don't put enough sting on the volley then better have good placement...keeps the opponents guessing/moving too.
Post a video of this if/when it happens.
^ I think it'd a great idea if TW shoots video when we ever get to play. I wouldn't mind making a fool out of myself on video.
jayserinos - maybe u can practice service return with Chris serving and u stand in the service box. read about that practice tip earlier.
^ actually, from time to time i return serve right behind the service line. helps with the reflexes although the success rate isn't that great.
at around 5 minutes...theres a beautiful view in the background!
Lol... you were being literal.
I was scrolling back through the vid to see who might be walking by at 5 minutes...
The problem with most etailers is that you don't get to know the people. This puts a face on TW, and it's nice to know that you guys really do play tennis.
It must be hard letting it all hang out there - but you've given me some good drills, and a little more connection to TW. Good luck!!
Thanks for the feedback.
Here's episode 5:
Interesting drill w/the double hit volley. Haven't seen that one before.
My coach used one that was somewhat similar. Basically he'd feed balls
to a guy at a baseline. The baseliner would try to crank a shot toward
the net guy. Instead of trying to hit a perfect dropshot, we'd just try to
take all the pace off of the ball.
Another one we did was one where a guy at the baseline was fed a
sitter just past the service line. His goal is to crank it at the net guy (not
necessarily hit at him, though). This was supposed to make us swing less
on the volleys and also work on reaction time.
Curious if you guys have sort of worked out who covers which balls
in certain situations? For example, do you always yell "I got it" for balls
in the middle and does the ad court guy pretty much take all overheads
in the middle unless he gets called off by the deuce court guy?
Or any general rules like whoever closes the net first and gets to the
ball first hits the volley (when it's in the middle, etc.) Calling for help
when you know the lob it going to get over you and will give you a
difficult shot (e.g. BH overhead while running back). Or do you have
a everyone covers their own lobs rule unless you yell for help or get
(^^^the above is what my doubles partner and I used to do)
good volley control drills. Spence - keep those feet moving and stepping into the shot. you're looking sharper.
Chris and i think alike when it comes to liking the "ball pocketing" strings/tension.
Pacific Sticks : Drool :
Great vid looks you guys are improving nicely the consistency drill and serve and volley drill think ill try them out at todays hitting sesh thank you guys for even making these vids for us appreciate it
I really am enjoying the vids. I hope to see more of these types in the future from you and other playtesters. Make sure someone takes some video at the tourney so we can see some of the action live (with full commentary).
You guys should have someone take some video of the actual matches.
Thanks for all the feedback. We appreciate all the tips offered here, and most certainly all the support!
JackB1- We currently have a request in to the tournament director for permission to film. It shouldn't be a problem, but we want to make sure we aren't stepping on anyone's toes.
That would be excellent!
