What are those sleeves? They look cool. Very Allen Iverson-esque.

Skins is a company that specializes in compression gear and is based in the endurance mecca of Boulder, CO.

I've not used the sleeves, however when I was doing some heavy trail running and overall mileage a couple years ago used their tights/leggings to recover and found them to be beneficial.

You will see them on quite a few triathletes (the compression socks and arm sleeves)

They are compression sport sleeves by Skins. They are designed to help relieve pain and fatigue while assisting circulation.

They are quite comfortable, to the point of not noticing them on during play. Also, they make warming up easier and quicker. I've been suffering with a little bit of 'golfer's elbow' so I've been using it for compression/circulation.

Guys- Looking good! The energy level seems to be getting better with each episode. Pretty soon you guys will be hopping around the the Bryans out there!

Spencer- One thing I noticed (maybe you did too) is your volleys are MUCH better when you are using your feet and moving forward. If you watch the early part of the video you have a slight tendency to wait for the ball to arrive instead moving aggressively through the shot. At the 3:57 point your volleys are markedly improved and the primary difference I see is much more aggressive footwork. In this particular drill you are closing in on the net from the baseline. My sense is some of the issues you have with your volleys are erased when you employ more aggressive footwork.

I find that when I am already at the net my volleys suffer because I tend to let the ball play me instead attacking the ball. In almost all cases the problem is I am not moving forward when striking the ball, but instead moving more laterally. The key is to insure your first step is towards the net. So when i am already at the net I tell myself to go get to the ball before it gets to me. This simple strategy causes me to play more aggressive, move my feet more and stay more alert up there. On the flip side, I will look for the opponent who tends to be more flat footed because I know that will create more opportunities by going at them.

I am in no position experience wise to critique your form. Just a quick thanks for giving us rookies some good drills to do for doubles. I especially like that the drills are two people drills but geared for doubles. Any time we manage to get four guys together we just want to play!

Thanks again, hope this type of content continues and good luck in your upcoming tourney.

Is there any difference between those and a regular UA or Nike shooting sleeve?

Skins offer gradient compression which is supposed to increase blood flow. It provides compression where needed while being more flexible in other areas to not hinder movement. Not all compression wear offers this and I'm not sure about Nike or UA.

I've worn a sleeve for about 4-5 practices so far and it is a very comfortable. The biggest benefit for me is that I found my arm warmed up much faster. Also, when doing the video shoots, there is down time when we are setting up the next shot so the sleeve does a good job of keeping my arm feeling ready to go once we start rolling again.

Awesome, I hate playing in the cold, or even cool, and it takes forever to get my arm going, so I think I will look into one. Does TW sell them?

Jolly, Running Warehouse sells a lot of compression gear and has free shipping too. You can buy arm warmers, arm compression, arm coolers. I have a compression sleeve that I sometimes wear at night. I also have some arm coolers that I wear on my bike. They also sell energy gels and recovery drinks. I think it is the best running/multisport store on the web for a lot of gear just like TW is for tennis.

Sweet. I have been signed up for a summer run series against my will and better judgement this year, so I think that may come in handy as I knock the dust off my spikes. Hopefully I don't drop dead lol.

same here and I feel like I have been the biggest customer of Running Warehouse this month. Make sure you get a foam roller - they sell one called the Grid that is worth the extra $$$- it is out of stock a lot - this thing really works on legs and I use it on my upper back/shoulder too. Very good for tennis before and after play. Also, I prefer the Hammer products. No sugar and very convenient if you dont feel like eating before a run or practice.

Yea, I am familiar with the foam roller. I don't know what exactly an IT band is, all I know is that it hurts like heck when I roll it. :)

Been avoiding the ice baths but if I am running and playing serious tennis I might have to take the plunge.

    2 questions:

1: The skins sleeves look like they're sold in pairs. Are the two sleeves the same or is there a left arm/right arm?

2: What's the song playing at the intro of the Gotta Want It vids? Catchy.. =]

They are sold in pairs and you can use either one on the left or right arm.

Not sure of the song, it is some stock music the video department has on file.

Yesterday was a tough day for TDubers.

    Spennie and I lost dubs 1-6, 5-7.

I lost in singles, 3-6, 4-6, and Danny also lost.

I am ridiculously sore and a little sun burnt, too.

Doesn't sound like anything a couple of cold beers and a BBQ can't remedy!

Great effort, and great vids. The beginning of a long summer, I am sure you guys can bag a dubs tourney by Labor Day.

    When is the next one?

Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement and support, as well as offering your insight to our improvement. We had a good time, played some decent tennis at times, and faultered at others...but all in all, it was fun.

Stay tuned for our closing episode...
