Should either the Stella Artois or Halle tournament be made a Masters?

  1. No, I'm fine with no Masters on Grass

I think there should be a Masters event on grass.

Whether a tournament is officially designated as a 'Masters' event or not is irrelevant.

I'd just like to see a grass court season that lasts longer than a mere three weeks.

I'm with Deuce. More grass tournaments in general. And stop slowing the game down with heavy balls and longer grass etc...

Why don't they have more grass tournaments anyway? Is there a particular reason?

They don't want to upset Safin, so they keep the number of grass tournaments to a minimum.

The time between French and Wimbledon is too short to have a full grass court season. Wimbledon shouldn't be so stubborn, should move to a couple of weeks later.

I think the biggest obsticle for more grass tourneys is the high cost of maintaining the courts. Much cheaper with clay and hardcourts.

Yup, a longer grass court season is necessary. And Wimbledon certainly doesn't need to end the grass court season. There is a clay court circuit going on after Wimbledon for most of the summer, why does the grass court season have to culminate in Wimbledon?
This would mean more points for players like Ancic, whose best results come on grass. It will certainly be an interesting change at the top.

Wimbledon is scheduled during the longest days of the year in England.

Grass courts were replaced by hardcourts to ease the expansion of tennis as a global sport. Reintroducing a longer grass court season is going in the opposite direction, not saying it's wrong, just saying it's going the other way.

Hard courts are so tough on the body. At least grass is a little easier on the legs. The tennis season is already such a grind. I think adding some grass tourneys and maybe cutting back on the hard court events would be a great idea.

I know the guy who runs the westside tennis club would probably definitely be interested in perhaps running a major grass tourney in the states. He brought the master's cup to the US and also runs the houston clay court tourney.

I think there should be a Masters on grass. If it's trying to represent meaningful competiton outside of the majors then replicating all the surfaces should be a minimum criteria. Whether Stella Artois (otherwise known as "Wife Beater" in the UK) would be happy to give up a tournament they have spent a great deal of money on promoting over the years is another question. Would it not be best to put yet another grass court tournament into the calendar to give the surface some greater representation. Even Coria won a match on grass this year! Where you'd hold it and when I don't know, but it would be great to see.
