My friend and I were discussing this the other day. Who, in your opinion, is the greatest person to have ever lived?

    I vote Nelson Mandela.

Yes David, I am; why? I'm excluding religious folk and all that because that'll start an argument and hijack the thread.

Jesus Christ, what a loaded question! ;)

I'm surprised that no one on this board has mentioned Barack Obama yet.

It is beyond me as well. I am not sure he would even be in the top 100 of all time. There have been so many great philosophers, leaders, inventors, doctors, etc. throughout all of human history. To pick someone in our lifetime(no matter who you chose) would be absurd.

What about Abraham Lincoln? At least for Americans, helped bring the end of slavery, helped bring the nation together and end the Civil War.

    lol:)

    all time doesn't mean {since 1950} {in South Africa}...:)

if we're talking greatest, as in most important/influential,

i have to go with Aristotle...

western civilization is based on Aristotle.

    christianity is based on aristotelianism.

You seem to have read my mind's deepest secrets ... but what of Fedace. Do we give him a consolation prize. That's unfair for his unparalleled efforts.

In terms of being amazing, Leonardo Da Vinci.

Too dumb to be the greatest; to discover those amazing things and NOT name it after yourself...fail.
