Anyone know how Guillermo is pronounced. I had always thought it was a soft "G", as in Guga, followed by ee air moe. --Gee air moe--But during today's telecast they pronounced it in several ways, none of which matched mine, which came from Spanish class in 5th grade along time ago.

Mary Carillo used a soft G, but used a hard G in the second syllable (Gee Jer mo)

Mac used a hard G but didn't hit the second syllable the same way, as in Jee air mo.

And the other guy said Jermo or something like that.

Of course, you can always say Vilas or Coria (or Bill for that matter).

    I prefer "Willy".

Actually, it's acceptable to pronounce the "ll" as a "y" or as a "j" sound.

It varies from region to region.

Bud Collins mentioned this very topic in the NBC telecast. He said that in Argentina the double "l" is pronounce as a "j" sound.

In Argentina, it would be pronounced:

    Gui as in Guilty
Ller as in Sherm, or Jerry
    Mo as Mother

The LL in Spain is pronounced differently.

u got that right (in argentina and uruguay the "ll" and the "y" is pronounced as j or sh sound). in other spanish speaking countries, for instance in spain, the "ll" and "y" is a very very soft "sh", almost a "ee" sound.

I am not sure if I can take you with me....in my suitcase.[IMG]

But we are taking some big boxes of bovine dough with us-if you think you can fit in there [IMG] :p

I think the best way,is to get in a box and send yourself to Spain!
    I have already a receiver in mind![IMG]
