Today once again Courier was talking about how he felt Clement was attractive. I wonder why the tabloids haven't gone after him yet. Here is Courier former world no.1, 37 years old, single, never married, talks about openly about his male crushes on the air.

That book Courier was reading on the changeovers way back when was an Armistad Maupin novel.

You know i dont know if Courier is gay or not nor do i care but i dont recall ever seeing a girlfriend present when Courier was in his playing days or now as a commentator. It seems as though he is always alone.

The tabloids don't go after him because he's a tennis player(and a former one at that). In case you haven't noticed, tennis isn't too terribly popular at the moment and doesn't sell newspapers as much as stories about Paris Hilton. Not to mention who cares if he's homosexual or not.

Blackgirlx...are you female? Do you think Halle Berry is attractive? Have you verbalized this? Are you comfortable in your own skin? Do you think James or Thomas Blake are attractive? With all of your 12 posts I just wonder why you want to bring anyone else's sexuality in to question...don't you have anything better to do?

Does this mean that any male commentators that said Federer dresses classy, and looks nice, makes him gay? or anybody that comment on Nadal's biceps for that matter? it seemed to me that instead of listening to people commenting on other players, you ought to be reading national inquirer or something.

If my "gaydar" is at all functional, I give Courier a big flat "no" when it comes to him being gay. A gay player with that baseball backhand? Puleaze. Courier is definitely on my list of players who I seriously doubt are gay.

Of course, "gaydar" is just code for "stereotypical", and there are lots of men who give off no signals at all.

Wow! You really are dumb. I thought after you said James Blake was whack that it couldn't get any worse. But it did. Now you are accusing Courier of being gay. So what? It doesn't change the fact that he is by far one of the best commentators at the USO. I think that you need to examine yourself and stop asking stupid questions like this. We need to quit talking about this gay stuff and talk about tennis. GRRRRRR!

Very well said. Blake and Thomas are attractive as well as other men in the world. I can admit it, understand what draws women to certain men and I'm totally hetero. I have a daughter but have been 'alone' for almost four years. Does being 'alone' mean I'm homosexual? No. Just means I like my time with my daughter and the tennis courts. Maybe Courier just likes his life uncomplicated and focused on tennis and its realm.

Interesting comment. There's nothing wrong with being gay, so I don't see how there's an "accusation" and that it has anything to do with a person's performance as a commentator.
Or you can post in a different topic.

I never said there was anything wrong with being gay. The OP implied that Jim Courier was gay. I would call that an accusation after reading the OP's first post. I just said what I thought about the commentating thing after she mentioned Courier saying how handsome Clement was. I enjoy listening to him. You could post in a different topic as well SS.

Considering that a very large number of people are gay, it's actually surprising that it's not talked about more frequently.
We've had at least five "Ivanovic is hot" topics already. Things come in waves. Right now, it's monkey see monkey do with gay topics. Two days from now it will be something else.

Although Jim Courier hardly ever seen with a girl friend on TV,
I do remember one girl friend shown on TV briefly when he was
playing a match as #1 in the world.

^he had a french girlfriend, that's how he learned to speak french. of course he was only 21/22 at the time, so who knows.

If you're only casually dating someone, having her in the stands(& subject to being filmed) may not be wise. The only players girlfriends we see are the serious ones.

Superstition, I know you're just saying this light-heartedly, but I don't want to reinforce stereotypes for any homophobes on this board. Many of the guys I hit with are gay, and their strokes are just as macho as the straight guys' strokes. In fact, a couple of them are terrible over-hitters.

Yes Courier had one girlfriend 16 long years ago. People make jokes about Novak Djokovic and he's just too cute to gay and very masculine. Meanwhile, Jim Courier just screams gay the guy talks about his male crushes on the TV for years from James Blake, to Ginepri, to Clement and Roddick. Novak may have a girlfriend but I think he's in love with Ana Ivanovic.

So that's he learned how to speak French. Pretty damn good, with a French girlfriend.

Who knows if he's gay or not. Some guys are just comfortable talking about other guys looks.

    Excuse me?

I've had crushes on women and I'm gay. I find female lower parts repellent (sorry ladies), and their bodies shaped "wrong" when it comes to what I find erotic (such as the shape of the hips). The crushes were Platonic/mental, not about sex.

Heterosexuals can have strong feelings for members of the same sex without having sexual desire for them.

I find this extremely laughable. Firstly, unless you provide a verbatim quote we will never know what Courier said. Maybe in a round about way he was commenting on how the ball seems to come to Clement, or maybe he was talking about his looks, but why would that matter it doesn't make him a homosexual for noticing.

Secondly, what are the other "male crushes" he's been talking about for years? :p

I think more confident guys somtimes easily praise other guy's look.
Attractive males have pleasing looks to humans, both males and females
although females may feel slightly different sensations.

Many people in the tennis community for years know Courier's gay its kind of an open secret like that Jodie Foster and Queen Latifah are lesbians and Anderson Cooper is a homosexual. Its one of those unspoken truths. Whenever the commentators talk about their love lives or families Courier is always silent. Whenever there is interviews with Courier his personal life is off limits. A lot of gay stars do that they don't want people to know they are gay so they figure if they don't talk about their personal lives they won't draw attention to it. Its a clear red flag. I mean does anyone honestly think Missy Elliott is straight?

Super, I'm not talking about the poulation at large. We're discussing ATP players, right? So, unless there is a whole bunch of gay men tennis players on tour...Then yeah, I'm actually surprised this silly s##t keeps comin' up.

As far as Ivanovic, the comment was toungue-in-cheek. To be candid, she ain't the flava I savor and just happens to be among the better looking of the slim pickins on the WTA. At least from where I'm sitting.

Yes today on USA network Courier was gushing about how he found Novak to be very attractive. Last year on NBC Courier during the Indianapolis event was talking about how he found James to be very attractive and he liked Ginepri's muscles. Every year Courier has a new crush. Courier is smart though he usually says the same line "is he single, just so the ladies know" and then he makes a comment about how he finds the young male tennis player attractive. Courier uses the same pattern all the time. Today during the Karlovic and Clement match he talked about how he found Clement to be very attractive as well.

Not that it matters one iota, but after seeing Courier when he comes to Australia in the 'megastar guest commentator' role, he always comes across as a very smooth-talking ladies man.

That said, when thought of in the context of someone trying to hide something, well he does indeed do the smooth-sleazey thing a LOT here, so maybe it is just a cover? Who knows. With as much money and fame as he has, even in tennis circles, it's odd he's not seen with a regular partner of either sex, unless of course the OP is right, and he just chooses to stay in the closet. If you look at past world number 1's, they tend to couple up quite easily (somewhat understandably - money, fame, success, fit, etc).

It just looks like Courier is trying to hide his sexuality just like George Clooney tries to act like he's a ladies man. Clooney reminds me of Rock Hudson and Cary Grant. Courier's all cover. The WTA has so many out lesbians yet the ATP TOUR only has Tilden. Give me a break. Its too much of an imbalance. And given the comments by some of the males on this board I doubt they would support a male player if he did come out as gay.

    Quote:

2000 -- "Courier is retiring from tennis only. He said his life will be as active, as full, as it has ever been.

He will get to spend more time with his girlfriend, composing music in his home studio, studying his financial investments and laying out plans for the future, playing golf and tennis -- just to stay in shape, of course -- and hanging out with the legion of good friends he has amassed through his remarkable career.

That doesn't even include his future career as a television commentator at Wimbledon this year.

"Retirement is maybe a convenient way to describe a transition," Courier said. "I'm not actually retiring, I'm going to stay active for sure, I'm not just going to head to Sun City, set up shop in a retirement place and play golf every morning at 6:30."

That does not mean anything at all. Do you honestly think gay men never has a "girlfriend"? There is not a single mens tennis player who is openly gay, yet 10-15% of the population is estimated to be. So do you really believe tennis is such such an uber-macho sport there is no gay players on the ATP tour of its multi-hundred regulars? Nonsense. However nobody who is wants to reveal apparently, and with that in mind why isnt it smart for some of those to use a so called girlfriend as a cover up.

I am a gay man and when I was alot younger I had a friend who acted as my "girlfriend" for a couple years, until I advanced past that stage of insecurity. So it is easy to believe a professional athlete whose lives are under much more scrutiny then a casual person would do that.

Hey BlackgirlX, I don't know where you're going with one, but even if Jim was wearing his heart "outside" on his sleeve, and since beauty is only "skin deep," then, for whatever it's worth, it should be noted that Courier is

    pink inside.....just like you.
