I thought this would be a cool idea for a thread. If you have played against another forum member, share who you played and how the outing went...

    I will kick things off.....

Recently I played fellow poster "Sreeram" who also lives here in Atlanta. We have played now a few times and we always seem to have close battles. He has improved quite a bit since I last played him about a year ago and has really cut down on his UE's. He is currently playing with a Donnay Pro One and he seems to like it a lot. We both play a counterpunch style, so we both rally and wait for an opportunity. He is a good baseliner and I attack him with slices and low skidding balls that pull him out of his comfort zone. He has a very nice topspin serve than is very consistent. All in all he is a solid and strong 3.5 player and seems on his way to 4.0.

Edit: I know this is the "racquets" forum, but I thought this would be the best place to post this, since most of the "regulars" hang out here. We can also discuss the racquet preferences of the people we played against and how they like what they are using.

I've hit with a bunch, and all but one were very enjoyable.

The one that wasn't, this a-hole kept hitting shoestring-drop-half-volleys on break point. Must have done it at least 6 or 8 times. Really pissed me off...

When I lived in Athens, GA I hit with caesar66 several times. Great guy and solid 4.0 player.

When I lived in Charlotte I played weekly with nctennis9. He's swinging KBlade 98s with BlueTac in the handle.

    He's joking around.

I'm pretty sure he knows how to handle drop shots as Mclovin is a coach.

Yes, it was meant for the #2 poster within this thread.

Sorry for the inside joke, but I lost to mikeler 4 & 3 this past fall, and I had at least 10 or 12 break points on him in each set. He kept coming up with these unbelievable shots on the break points, many of them drop-shot-half-volleys. The frustrating thing was, he only came to the net on those break points.

I'm looking forward to our rematch this spring.

That can be frustrating! But a good tactic by ole Mikeler :) He knows you are more pressured when facing break points, so he turns up the heat by forcing you to make a good passing shot. Sounds like Mikeler has good handles :)

Mikeler has a ton of match play experience. That really is the key. Even if it is practice sets, I try and do that as much as possible. It is far more enjoyable as well.

TW should host an annual "Talk Tennis Forum Fest" in a centrally located area. You could play against fellow forum posters and also demo racquets. I would be a "win - win" for everybody!

Also.....how about some details guys? :)
Just listing posters you've hit with is nice, but some more details would be even better!

-Hit with a couple members down in Alabama during a short trip to Pensacola, FL a few years ago, but can't remember their TT names.

-Almost got to hit with Drak in South FL, but didn't have time to bust out the racket while at the Sony Ericsson about 4 years ago.

I've hit with Kiteboard singles once for about 15 minutes.
Alex who took the vid of me serving, a solid 4.0.
Yaz, do you ever play at SanPabloCourts?. Not that I can hit with you, but Roger the lefty hits with me most days he shows up, as does Josh, but not Freedom. Damien and I have a long history of close sets in singles.

That's not true. We had cosmos and discussed our numerous affairs last time we hit.

BTW I call this guy Deliciano cause his one handed backhand looks just like Lopez's backhand.

I've posted my phone # more than 10 times, never got a reply.
Who would want to hit with an old, crippled, blind guy who revels in his younger years?

    Thanks for replying, Yaz....
6 isn't good, as I live up N in SanPablo, and g/f wants to windsurf most days, which is from 4-7 for her.
I have hit and played at CrownBeach courts, those 7 or so. Mostly afternoon pickup doubles, but nobody was nearly 4.0 back in year '00.
I forgot Dr.Dave and Sakai, both former hitting partners of Kiteboard. Sakai smoked me 3 years ago, but that was after I couldn't run one step, and he was having troubles in doubles against me and whatever partners we switched to. I think he wanted revenge. I consider him strong 4.5 or 5.0, just like Geoff.
Gotta say about Geoff, he does have a strong personality. But I focus on his tennis, which is pretty good for an electrician who's fat and out of shape.

I (along with my buddy) set up a TW meet way back in '07. Most of the posters aren't very active here anymore, as far as I can tell... The (what seems to now be) defunct PNW chapter thread is linked below.

I've never had a problem with KB the few times we've hit. I think we did some basic rallying, drills, and a couple of sets (which we split). He's an interesting guy for sure, I remember his old Babolat's having a LOT of lead tape on them and his technique is definitely his own. But he does have a very solid all around game and hits with good pace off the ground, so I enjoyed hitting with the guy. You ever hit with Ezana before?

    Hi Yaz...
Don't know Ezana, or heard of him.
The local tourneys here are usually won (A/Open) by either Freedom or Josh, brother's, who's Dad is a 3.0, named Ohmm.
Guess you don't know Damien, or Carl, or Phil (tall middle eastern 5.0), or JeffMink, or Zack?
Got to hit a few times with Aba, son of Rick, who was Harvard's No 2. I can hold my own if I have someone hitting with me on my side, as I can't cover alley to alley, but can hit with most Open players pretty decently if I can reach the ball.
Getting old sucks, and 64 is pretty old.

I know the brothers, but not the other guys you mentioned. I didn't play tennis between about 1994 and 2009 and I was living in San Diego at the time, so I'm somewhat "new" to the bay area tennis scene. I did play juniors in NorCal back when it was called NCTA and recognize a lot of the guys still playing like Hunter G and Rick Kepler.

When do you usually hit at San Pablo?

Well, I'm "retired", so it's MWF mornings until around 1, when I should be getting to work (g/f's house renovation) or windsurfing.
When I first started going to SanPablo courts, in Jan, a few 4-4.5 would show up and we'd have great doubles pickup sets. They disappeared, and now it's mainly 4.0 or lower pickup doubles, or pure rallying with Freedom (I''ll pass).
While rallying with a 5.0 would help my game lots, it's boring for Freedom. But his Dad is a 3.0, so that should be even more boring.

Oh, most MWF's, these two sisters show up to play doubles. They're state ranked, played in last weeks junior tourney in GoldRiver (E Sacto), but lost badly. Unfortunately, they're young, like 12 and 14, and really only play at 3.5 level hard hitting doubles.
